While there are a lot of dynamics in the story, today, we will focus on the city of Nineveh. Jonah was the prophet chosen by God to deliver a message to Nineveh. The message was plain and simple, "Yet 40 days and Nineveh will be overthrown." Why did God decide to destroy Nineveh? He told Jonah it was because of the city's wickedness. Today, no one wants to face the wickedness and sins of the world. It's so engraved in society that people think right is wrong and wrong is right. Proverbs 14:34 declares, "Righteous exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people." I John 5:17 also tells us that all unrighteous is sin. So just take a look—everywhere you turn, sin is tolerated. It is tolerated in the home, in the church, and in the government. Lying, cheating, stealing from each other and from God through tithes and offerings, adultery, fornication (both heterosexual and homosexual),porn, envy/jealousy, hatred, racism, greed, selfishness, pride, unthankful, unholy, etc. abound. The word of God says let every man examine himself. He put on sackdoth and ashes. He also made a decree that every person great and small, every animal and beast would not eat. The city of more than 120,000 fasted and prayed before God. The people believed God, and God changed His mind and did not overthrown them because they repented. If we repent as a nation and go back to God, He will deliver us. Stimulus checks will not do it, but prayer will. God is the king of kings and the lord of all lords. Let Him be king and lord to rule and reign in your life. The change and the revival begin with us in our lives, homes, communities, and churches. Yes, it is time to go back to God. The wicked people of Nineveh prayed and changed God’s mind. They could have read II Chronicles 7:14, which tells us, "If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal and their land."
