Tigers dispatch Vidalia
and Bacon County

The Swainsboro Ti
gers (14-1) took two
tough region opponents
to the woodshed this
past weekend, blowing
out Vidalia 67-46 and
Bacon County 55-40.
The wins allow the Ti
gers to claim the # 1 seed
heading into the region
playoffs next week as
Swainsboro has dom
inated a stout Region
2-AA with a 11-0 record
with just Jeff Davis re
maining on the season
schedule.
The Tigers hosted
region rival Vidalia in
the Tigers' Den on Fri
day night and were
far from hospitable to
the Indians. Swains
boro pressed full court,
and Vidalia struggled
mightily to get into an
offensive set, turning
the ball over repeatedly
as Swainsboro jumped
out to a 12-0 lead early.
Swainsboro led 29-22 at
the half but turned on
the jets midway in the
3 rd quarter to pull away
and take a 53-38 lead
into the final period.
Fred Seabrough led
the way with 16 points
followed by 14 points
from Tyler Kelly and
12 points from Derrick
Jones.
Bacon County visit
ed on Saturday night
and once again Swains-
boro's defense was the
key factor, limiting the
Red Raiders to only 6
points in the opening
quarter. Kelly scored 6
points by himself over
that stretch in route to
another strong perfor
mance. The Tigers slow
ly but surely pulled
away from Bacon Coun
ty to win by 15 points,
led by Kelly's 11-point
performance and Der
rick Jones, Demonte
Smith, and Flex Wash
ington all scoring 9
points as Swainsboro
dominated from the
guard position.
Swainsboro will wrap
up the regular season
this Saturday night at
home against a very
tough Jeff Davis squad
as the Tigers look to go
a perfect 12-0 in region
play. Woodville-Tomp-
kins and Jeff Davis are
currently tied at 6-3
for second place with
games to play this
week. Region playoffs
are set to begin next
week with Swainsboro
playing over the week
end for another region
crown.

exceptionally promising
students for the future
as community leaders
in our region. Students
are selected for this
full-tuition scholarship
based on demonstrated
scholarship, leadership
and service. Students
selected for the Correll
Scholars Program will
participate in a one-hour
credit course each semes
ter that focuses on issues
and challenges facing
our region and work
collaboratively to design
solutions for those chal

of three region games

26, David Emanuel
Academy's Lady Eagles
hosted The Habersham
School in regional play,
where the Eagles fell short
of a victory by only nine
points with a final score of
53-44. Scoring Eagle points
were Bree Wimberly, 21;
Sara Jo Perkins, 10; Ann
Carol Daniel, 7; Liz Dye,
5; and Jordyn Bell, 1.
The Lady Eagles host
ed another regional
game on Jan. 29 against
the Nathanael Greene
Academy Patriots. The vis
iting team was sent home
after the Eagles defeated
them 41-35. Scoring points
in the Eagles' win were
Bree Wimberly, 17; Jordyn
Bell, 9; Liz Dye, 7; Sara Jo
Perkins, 6; and Ann Carol
Daniel, 2.
On Feb. 1, the Lady
Eagles travelled to The
Habersham School in
Savannah to face the
Patriots again in regional
play. The Eagles avenged
their Jan. 26 loss by defeat
ing the Patriots 51-45.
