Deer Harvest Gallery winners announced
Throughout deer season, The Forest-Blade had an
online contest on emanuelcountylive.com where hunt
ers could submit photos of their kill. There were two
categories for entry and $100 was given away in each
category A third entrant was also randomly selected
for a $100 prize. The winners are as follows:
Scrap Scarboro, Adult Category: Scrap, a resi
dent of Swainsboro, bagged a massive non-typical
15-pointer on Nov. 16, 2020 in West Reydon, Texas.
He was accompanied by his mother, Wanda, who
downed an 11-pointer; cousin Gage Hooks, who got
a 9-pointer; and father, Wayne, who harvested - well,
better luck next time, Wayne. Gage was gifted the
trip from his parents, Tracy and Chandra Hooks,
because he will graduate from Swainsboro High
School and East Georgia State College at the same
time this year.
Peyton Free, 16 & Under Category: This was
Peyton's first kill ever. Not only did she kill one buck
that day, she bagged two. She was hunting with her
father, Bill Free, on private property. Peyton is also
the daughter of Haylee Free. She is a 10 th grade stu
dent at David Emanuel Academy.
Lake Woods, Randomly Selected Winner: Lake
got his kill while hunting on private property owned
by his Papa Joey Lake said he eyed another BIG
BUCK but was not able to get a shot at him before he
ran. Lake is a 5th grade student at David Emanuel
Academy. He is the son of Tracy and Luke Scott and
Timmy Woods.
Bulldogs hoping for a complete season

The ECI Bulldog base
ball team is entering the
2021 year, hoping as most
teams are, to play a full
season.
Because of Covid restric
tions, spring sports were
cancelled in the middle
of March last season with
the Bulldogs only playing
nine games. The cancella
tion also created an early
ending of senior players'
careers who, unlike college
players, cannot get that
season back.
Three games had to be
rescheduled to later in the
season (which were never
played) because of the on
going drainage problems
at Joe Harvey Field. A nor
mal rain can sometimes
make the field unplayable.
Because of that reason,
the Bulldogs have just one
home game scheduled in
the month of February this
season.
After an away scrim
mage game against States
boro, the Bulldogs start the
season with a home open
er against Burke Co. The
Bears and Bulldog series
has turned into a pretty
good rivalry in the last
several years. ECI also
plays in the Burke Co. In
vitational every year slat
ed for Saturday, Feb. 27.
The Bulldogs will see
some new faces on the
schedule this year. The
region added Screven Co.,
Metter, and Bryan Co. to
an already tough region.
The Bulldogs are again
coached by head baseball
coach Brooks Collins with
assistant coaches, Chad
Harper, Chris Kearson and
Caleb Pressey.
Calling pitches from
the dugout this year will
be first-year pitching
coach Caleb Pressey, who
pitched for the Bulldogs
from 2010-2013 and was
on the pitching staff at
Georgia Southern.
"We have a good mix
of returning starters with
a large number of tenth
and ninth grade players
that are going to be thrown
into the fire early to com
pete for the starting spot,"
commented coach Brooks
Collins.
The Bulldogs enter the
season fielding four se
niors, two juniors, six
sophomores and seven
freshmen, which includes
seven returning starters.
Returning to the lineup
in 2021 are 3B-SS Chase
Whitehead, 2B-OF Jere
my Jones, P-Trey Hughes,
RF-Natavus Robertson,
P-1B Lawson Mercer, P-Jo-
seph Stewart, and P-SS
Bryce Kearson.
The success for any
baseball season will rely
heavily on the pitching
staff. Bulldogs return one
senior to the mound. Trey
Hughes will complete his
ECI pitching career for the
Bulldogs this year. Also
returning to the pitching
staff as starters are junior
