Public Hearing Notice The Emanuel County Pre-Disaster Mitigation Planning Committee will hold a Final Public Hearing on Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 from 2:00pm. to 4:00p.m. The hearing will be held at the Commissioner’s Board Room at 101 N. Main St. Swainsboro, Georgia 30401. The purpose of this public hearing is to inform citizens and provide the opportunity to review and voice input concerning the pre-FEMA submission draft of the 2021-2026 Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan that is taking place in Emanuel County. The 2021 Emanuel County Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan draft has been prepared on behalf of Emanuel County and the Cities of Adrian, Garfield, Nunez, Oak Park, Stillmore, Summertown, Swainsboro, and Twin City. SCV Camp, OCR Chapter donate books to Franklin Memorial Library On Feb. 4, the McLeod-Moring Camp #1386 Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) and Heritage Roses Chapter #15 Order of Confederate Roses (OCR), with the cooperation of Library Manager Gladys Collins, donat ed a selection of books to Franklin Memorial Library. Previously, the library was found to be short on selections published from southern authors during the 1800s. The SCV and OCR have made it a priority to find these books and donate them to the library for the commu nity to be able to bor row. The first selections donated were: The True Story of Andersonville Prison by James Madison Page (1839-1924). Page was a second lieu tenant of Company A Sixth Michigan Cavalry for the Union Army. He was captured in September of 1863 and spent 13 months in southern military pris ons. Seven months were spent at Camp Sumter near Andersonville, Georgia. Page wrote the book in defense of Major Henry Wirz, the former commandant of the prison who was accused of murder. The book was first pub lished in 1908. A Constitutional View of the Late War Between The States, volumes I and II, by Alexander H. Stephens (1812-1883), first pub lished in 1870. Stephens was a lawyer, a U.S. con gressman from Georgia before the war, served as vice president of the Confederate States of America during the war and served as Georgia's governor from 1882 until his death in 1883. The Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government, volumes I and II, by Jefferson Davis (1808-1889), first published in 1881. Davis was a for mer lieutenant in the United States Army, who served as a colonel of a volunteer regiment during the Mexican- American War from 1846-1848. He served as a Representative in the 29 th Congress and as a Senator in the 30 th United States Congress for Mississippi, where he served through 1851. He was later appoint ed secretary of war in 1853 under President Franklin Pierce. He served as the presi dent of the Confederate States of America.
