Jamie and Brenda Henry of Adrian are excited to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kara Henry, to Hunter Braswell, son of Matt and Catina Braswell of Swainsboro. Miss Henry is a 2016 grad uate of David Emanuel Academy and a 2018 graduate of East Georgia State College. She will graduate from Georgia Southern University in the Fall of 2021 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management. Mr. Braswell is a 2017 graduate of Swainsboro High School and a 2019 graduate of East Georgia State College. He will graduate from Georgia Southern University in the Spring of 2021 with a Bachelor's degree in middle grades educa tion. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late James and Margaret "Peggy" McClendon of Swainsboro and Betty Henry Hudson and the late Kenneth Henry of Adrian. The groom-elect is the grandson of Larry and Debbie McDaniel of Swainsboro, Sarah Farrow of Swainsboro, and the late Walter Braswell of Yemassee, The wedding is set for June 5, 2021, at 7 p.m. at The Barn at Collins Family Farm in Cobbtown. A reception will follow at the same location. Welcome baby Mason Olivia Watkins Megan and Dustin Watkins of Swainsboro are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Mason Olivia Watkins. Born at the University Hospital in Augusta on April 20, 2020 at 2:39 p.m., she weighed 7 lbs. and 10 oz. and was 20" long. Mason Olivia is the granddaughter of Tracy and Keith Thompson, Tammy and Glen Watkins, and Amanda Braddy, all of Swainsboro. She is also the great-granddaughter of Gail Thompson of Nunez, Sharon Manning of Swainsboro, Bonnie and Milton Womack of Swainsboro, the late Billy Thompson of Nunez, the late Reba and Fred Mason Sr. of Swainsboro, and the late Herbert and Lucille Watkins of Swainsboro. Baby Mason was welcomed home by her older sister, Millie Layne Watkins. MASON OLIVIA WATKINS EGSC professor receives doctoral degree from GSU Jing Kersey, Associate Professor in Mathemat ics at East Georgia State College, received her DrPH (Doctor of Public Health) in Biostatistics from Georgia Southern University (GSU) in July 2020. Dr. Kersey joined the Department of Math ematics at East Georgia State College in 2010 as an instructor after earn ing her master's degree in Statistics from GSU. At EGSC, she teaches Col lege Algebra, Elementary Statistics, and Calculus II & III. She is also an eCore instructor teaching El ementary Statistics and Quantitative Reasoning. Dr. Kersey received the 'Distinguished Faculty Award' in both 2015 and 2019. "Dr. Kersey is a valu able member of the Math ematics Department and the School of Mathemat ics and Natural Sciences. She is an excellent teacher and colleague. I am very proud of her accomplish ment," said Dr. David Chevalier, Interim Dean of the School of Mathe matics and Natural Sci ences at EGSC. Besides teaching, Dr. Kersey is actively in volved in research on the statistical evaluation of diagnostic tests. She has co-authored a few jour nal articles and two book chapters in this area. De veloping open educa tional resources (OER) in college-level statistics and mathematics is one of her commitments. She is the Editor-in-Chief and contributor of the OER textbook Healthcare Eco nomics. "Dr. Kersey's contri bution to the EGSC com munity has been out standing to say the least," said EGSC Mathematics Department Chair Dr. Da'Mon Andrews. "The reception of her DrPH will only strengthen her service to our students, community, and provide an additional depth of expertise to the EGSC fac ulty. My colleagues and I extend our congratula tions to Dr. Kersey on this great accomplishment." Dr. Kersey is a proud member of the Georgia Mathematical Associa tion of Two-Year Colleges (GMATYC), American Statistical Association (ASA), International Biometric Society East- DR. KERSEY ern North American Re gion (ENAR), and Public Health Students Associa tion (PHSA). Despite her busy schedules, Dr. Kersey enjoys life with her hus band, two young daugh ters, and three dogs in Statesboro, GA. She likes gardening, cooking and reading.
