Looking on is Sylvia Hooks (10), SHS forward, who was both high scorer and Most Valuable Player for the tournament. Edgefield's Polly Tompkins attempts to stop the Swainsboro onslaught, but to no avail. Swainsboro won the game, 60-32, and cap tured the championship. (Visit emanuelcountylive. com to see photos) Miss Avery named Betty Crocker S.H.S. Homemaker Llewelyn Avery has been named the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow from SHS according to Mr. W. C. Fordham, principal. The announcement came after the results of the national Betty Crocker homemaker tests were announced. On Dec. 6, all senior class girls took a standardized test on homemaking knowl edge and aptitudes. This test was a part of the Betty Crocker Search for the American Homemaker of Tomorrow. The tests were graded by Science Research Associates and the highest scorer in each school was designated local school winner. Harper, the flag which flew over the U.S. Capitol in Washington in his honor. Mrs. Lamb had requested that the 5x6' flag be flown over the capitol in honor of Mr. Harper and the students at SES. It took some time for their true identity to emerge as they struggled with consistency early in the season, but as the regular season draws to a close this week, they appear ready for the test. The team com peted in weekly duals against Dublin, Vidalia, West Laurens, East Laurens, Dodge County and Toombs County. The region tournament was held January 28, 2011, at West Laurens High School with seven teams partic ipating.
