TheBlade Swainsboro, GA • February 24, 2021 • ummiEmaniielConntyLive.com Swainsboro Lady Tigers rolling into the state playoffs by TROUP BRINSON The Swainsboro Lady Tigers (10-9) have been a hot team as the state playoffs start this week, winning 6 of their past 8 games. Swainsboro took down Vidalia last Tues day in the first round of the region playoffs 50-43 to lock down a berth into the state playoffs and completed their week with a 62-55 win versus Toombs County to secure a #3 seed. The Tigers came out against Vidalia deter mined defensively to make the Indians earn every inch they moved on the court. Swainsboro scored the first 12 points, and Vidalia didn't get a shot to the rim for the first 4.5 minutes as the Tigers turned the Indians over repeatedly to take complete control. Serah Kelly led the way with 18 points, and Meyah Raw ls and Jayden Wynn each had 11 points. Swainsboro matched up with the #1 seed and top 5 ranked East Lau rens Falcons next, los ing a close one 46-41. This put the Tigers in a #3/4 seed battle against Toombs County, and Swainsboro came out with the victory 62-55 to catapult them into a state playoff road game on Tuesday against La mar County. Swainsboro once again turned on the defense in the opening quarter controlling the action 19-7 as Kelly went off for 12 points in the first period. The Tigers maintained their lead throughout and secured a 7-point victory. Swainsboro traveled to Lamar County on Tues day to play a very diffi cult first round match up against an opponent who is 17-5 and the #2 seed from Region 3-AA, a very strong region. Garrett comes to Swainsboro from Americus, Georgia. Garrett brings over 20 years of coaching and recruiting experience to EGSC. For the past five years, he was the head coach of the men's bas ketball team at South Georgia Technical Col lege. Before his time at South Georgia Tech nical College, Garrett held the head coach position at the Univer sity of South Carolina Salkehatchie. While at USC Salkehatchie Gar rett built the program from the ground up and made them into one of the most respect ed programs in the re gion. Throughout his time in college, Garrett stayed on the basket ball court. While ob taining his associate of arts degree at College of Central Florida in Oca la, Florida, he was on the basketball team and was named one of the top 100 Junior College Players in the U.S. by Street and Smith Mag azine. He continued his education at Stetson University in Deland, Florida, where he re- GARRETT ceived his Bachelor of Arts in sports manage ment.
