repair, neighborhood
speeding and reckless
drivers, installing sig
nage, use of radar with
in the area as well as the
suggested appearance of
more law enforcement
and concerns with the
tint level applied on law
enforcement vehicles. All
concerns were addressed
by council, mayor, City
Administrator A1 Law-
son, and Swainsboro Po
lice Chief Randy Ellison
in detailed manner and
explanations.
• Alexander B.
Archie then addressed
concerns with road pave
ment, contracting local
businesspeople like him
self for possible upcom
ing projects, the issuance
of warnings by code en
forcement.
• A second reading
of the Occupation Taxes,
Adm. Fees, and Regulato
ry fees ordinance amend
ment. A public hearing on
the matter will be held at
an upcoming meeting.
Committee reports:
• Chief Ellison
addressed council with
moving SPD Officer
Kayleigh McVey from
part-time staff to full
time. Fie also addressed
council with sending two
new hires, Tyler McCarty
and Cheyenne Blalock, to
attend the police acade
my in April. The requests
were unanimously ap
proved by council. Lastly,
Chief Ellison addressed
councilmembers with a
proposal on communica
tions. He stated that the

The easy win on Wednesday would not foretell the
struggle that the Laney Wildcats would present. Laney
was well trained for the defensive pressure that the Ti
gers would bring and they navigated with little dis
comfort. The Wildcats were hot from beyond the arc
and controlled the action for large parts of the game,
putting the Tigers on the brink with a 13-4 2 nd quarter
that put Swainsboro down by 8 at halftime. But freshly
recognized Region 3-AA Coach of the Year Brice Hobbs
calmed his team and pushed the right buttons. His team
came out on fire in the 3 rd quarter, Tyler Kelly in particu
lar changed the course of the game 12 points in the quar
ter as the Tigers outscored Laney 28-14 and took a 6 point

ty issue and the replace
ment chairs will hold the
capacity of 500 lbs. The
$5,000 purchase of 40
chairs was approved by
council.

• City Adminis
trator Lawson addressed
council with a grant writ
er request as well as the
hiring of G. Ben Turnip-
seed for engineering proj
ects. Both matters were
unanimously approved
by council.
• Mayor Schwabe
provided an update on
the recent VFW and
American Legion cel
ebration, spoke briefly
on planning a bicenten
nial celebration to honor
the city of Swainsboro's
establishment in 2022,
advising interested par
ties to contact Lynn Brin
son in regards to being a
part of the planning com
mittee; and briefly spoke
on the progress of the the
Barbara & Tobe Karrh
Community Center and
the Community Action
for Youth Gymnasium on
Gumlog. He also advised
that Councilperson Ricky
Stevens was currently
medically excused from
meetings at this time.
• Councilperson
John E. Parker thanked all
for the support received
after the loss of his father
and inquired on property
donated to the city.
• Mayor Pro Tern
Bobbi Collins commend
ed the Swainsboro Ani
mal Shelter staff for their
dedication to the local
community.
• Mayor Schwabe
and Chief Ellison also
commended Code
Enforcement Officer
Bobby McCoy for his ser
vices.

However, Laney would not go down without a fight
and grabbed the momentum midway through the quar
ter, regaining the lead and threatening to end Swains
boro's season. Down by 3 with under a minute to play,
Derrick Jones nailed a 25 foot bomb to tie the game and
send it to overtime. Swainsboro took over in the extra
frame and made all the plays, outscoring Laney 12-3 to
begin the overtime and the crowd could celebrate the
victory as the final seconds ticked off the clock.
Fred Seabrough led the scoring with 23 points and
Kelly added 18 points. Jones had 9 points and Cedric
Seabrough, Demonte Smith, and Flex Washington had 7
points apiece.
Swainsboro will host Lovett on Wednesday with a
berth to the Final 4 on the line as Ryan Mutombo leads
the Lions. Mutombo is a Georgtown commit and the
6'11" senior is the son of NBA great Dikembe Mutombo.
The Lady Tigers won an exciting first round game
against Lamar County, upsetting the home team and
winning late 51-48. Tanyia Williams led the way with 15
points. Swainsboro's hot run came to an end on Friday
night in Early County, 67-47. The Tigers played a phys
ical game but just could not contain 6'3" Florida State
commit Makayla Timpson. Timpson scored 42 points.
Jayden Wynn scored 13 in the losing effort as the Tigers
end their season after playing their best basketball of the
season down the stretch.

Friday saw the Bull
dogs taking on number
two seed from region
one, Pelham. The Hor
nets advanced to the sec
ond round defeating Wil
cox Co. 50-45 in the first
round.
Hardin scored the first
points of the game and
ECI started to pull away
in the first period taking a
17-9 lead into the second.
The Lady Dawgs extend
ed the lead in the second
outscoring the Hornets
14-11 to take a 31-20 lead
at the break.
Both teams had a scor
ing drought in the third
with each team putting 9
points on the board. The
final period was just the
opposite as both teams
scored 36 with ECI ex
tending their lead by 15 to
take the game 60-45.
The Bulldogs' stifling
defense caused a total
of 13 steals during the
game. The Dawgs also
owned the boards with
22 offensive and 25 defen
sive rebounds.
The two seniors once
again led the offense with
Harden scoring 33 in
cluding 10-10 at the line.
Smith was also in double
digits with 14 points.
The Bulldogs will trav
el to Greenville to take
on the Greenville Patriots
this Wednesday (today)
with a 5:00 tipoff.
The Patriots are the
number one seed from re
gion 5 with a 14-0 season
record including the play
offs. Like the Bulldogs,
Greenville is a good offen
sive unit scoring 70 plus
points in 6 games this
season including a 100-30
rout of Chattahoochee.
Greenville defeated
Green Co. in their first
round game 60-32 and Mt.
Zion 84-56 in the second
round.
Greenville is not allow
ing fans at the game, but
fans and parents are able
to watch on the Greenville
Middle High School web
page. ECI will share the
