William Frank "Bill" English, 86 Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. William Frank “Bill" English, age 86, of Swainsboro, on Monday, February 22, 2021, at the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Graveside services were held Saturday, February 27, at 2 p.m. in the Swainsboro City Cemetery with Rev. Casey Shaw officiat ing. The family received friends at the Cemetery after the service. CDC social distancing guide lines were observed and masks were encouraged for the safety and health and well-being of others. Honorary Pallbearers were the Jimmy Morgan Sunday School Class. Mr. English was born February 26, 1934, in Jefferson County to the late Lamar and Marie Raley English. He was a graduate of Avera High School, and received his B.S. Degree in Agriculture from the University of Georgia in 1954 as a mem ber of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, and com manded the UGA ROTC Rifle Team as a senior. Mr. English faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War as a 1 st Lt. jet fighter pilot, flying some of the earliest jets from 1955-1958. He set tled in Swainsboro in 1963 with his wife, Barbara "Lynn" Johnson English, where he raised a family and happily lived the rest of his life. Mr. English was self-employed. He started English Sales and Lumber Company, working in construction, machin ery sales, lumber mill ing, grain elevator, and farming operations. Mr. English began his politi cal career as a Swainsboro City Councilman serv ing from 1972-1976, and was elected to the Georgia State Senate to represent the 21st district in the State Legislature from 1976-1992. While serving, Senator English was Majority Whip and Chairman of the Agriculture Committee. He helped draft legisla tion that was very ben eficial to the environ ment and the citizens of Georgia. Mr. English's focus was on assisting family farmers, secur ing funds that creat ed multiple State Parks and Recreational Areas, improving highways and bridges throughout his district, and working with local leaders to procure state funds for county and Dorothy Mae Dorothy M. Garretson, 94, of Swainsboro, died Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Hospice Savannah. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at Antioch Cemetery with Reverend Louis Pearce officiating. Social distancing and the use of face coverings is encouraged. Ms. Garretson was born in Candler County, daughter to the late Thomas Sutton and Robbie Holloway Sutton. She was a home- ENGLISH city infrastructure proj ects. Mr. English loved helping individual con stituents with their issues as well, and he was very passionate about starting the Head Injury Program in Georgia. He was an active member of the Swainsboro First Baptist Church Jimmy Morgan Sunday School Class and the Church Brotherhood. Affectionately known as "Grumpy" to his fami ly, his greatest joy was spending time with, and entertaining, friends and family at his farm and cabin in Jefferson County. He enjoyed hunting, fish ing, playing the guitar, and cooking good BBQ on his English cooker. In additional to his parents, Mr. English is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Barbara "Lynn" Johnson English; son, Franklin "Scott" English; brothers, Don English and Jack English; and granddaughters, Erika Knode, and Anna Wells. Survivors include daughter, Ree English Saunders (Mitch) of Greensboro; sons, Jeff English (Barbara) of San Antonio, TX, Joe English (Suzanne) of Douglas, and Michael English (Ashley) of Savannah; brother, Robert English (Nancy) of Duluth; sister-in-law, Lynda English of Metter; grandchildren, Brandon English (Brittany), Jason English (Heather), Macey Clifton, Anna Claire Saunders, Haley English, Kinsey English, Kaidy English, Kristen English, Abby English, Jim Saunders (Beth), Stacey Logue (Bobby), Jackie Walling (Todd), Christina Briegel (Kyle), Emma Wells, and Ethan Wells; great-grandchil dren, Charlotte Saunders, James Saunders, Bennett Logue, Addison Walling, and Everett Walling; niec es, nephews, and extend ed family. Claude Randell "Randy" Wilson, Jr., 55 Mr. Claude Randell "Randy" Wilson, Jr., age 55, of the Aline Community in Candler County, died Sunday, February 21, 2021, at his home after a sudden ill ness. A memorial service was held Wednesday, February 24- at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Rountree officiating. Randy was a native of Oak Park, Normantown, and Aline all of his life. He was a truck driver, heavy equipment oper ator, and he enjoyed woodworking and motorcycles. Mr. Wilson is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Williamson Wilson. Mr. Wilson is survived WILSON by his wife, Brenda Wilson of Aline; son, Claude Randell "Trey" Wilson III (Jessica) and grand daughter, Ava Wilson, all of Swainsboro; his father, Claude "Randell" Wilson, Sr.; and sister, Sharon Wilson, both of Oak Park. Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of arrangements. Ella Smith Thompson Hadden, 90 Mrs. Ella Smith Thompson Hadden, 90, of Metter, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021. The funeral was held Tuesday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter with Rev. Arthur Conley officiating. The family received friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment followed in Old Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Born in Candler County, she was the daughter of Roy Smith and Ella Davis Smith. Mrs. Ella was a retired seamstress having worked for Twin City Manufacturing for twenty-eight years, and she lived in Candler County most of her life. After retiring, she went to work with Candler County Hospital as a nursing aide and worked there for twelve years. Mrs. Ella was a member of Cedar Street Baptist Church, and she enjoyed working outdoors. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ella is preceded in death by her first hus band, Onnie Thompson, Sr. and two sons, Onnie Thompson, Jr. and Jerry HADDEN R. Thompson. Surviving are her hus band, Talmadge Hadden of Metter; son, Billy W. Thompson of Claxton; two daughters, Dianne Pitts of Swainsboro and Debra Thompson of Fernandina Beach, Florida; step children, Coleman Hadden of Eatonton, Larry Hadden of Metter, Mary Bond of Cochran, Joy Hadden of Chatsworth, and Jennifer Tanner of Metter; sister, Betty Josey of Twin City; several grandchildren; step-grandchildren; and several nieces and neph ews. Janet Elaine Williamson, 63 Janet Williamson (Lindsey), age 63, of Mt. Vernon, died surround ed by her family on February 23, 2021, after a brief battle with can cer. Family and friends attended a "Family Reunion" Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 27, at 2 p.m. at the Community House in Oak Park. Her remains were interred at the Oak Park Cemetery following the memorial dinner. Ms. Williamson was born May 16, 1957, in Vidalia, to Garnett and Drunell (Barwick) Lindsey. She was raised and lived most of her life in Oak Park. Janet had recently retired as a seamstress to her home in Lyons when her health began to decline. Ms. Williamson is preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Mick Lindsey; and great-neph ew, Logan Reffitt. Ms. Williamson is survived by her chil dren, Heather Phillips of Mount Vernon, Allen Williamson (Sonia) of Floral City, Florida, Ayla Heckel of Statesboro, and Justin Heckel (Julie) of Lyons; siblings, Mickey Lindsey (Teresa) of Oak Park, Deron Lindsey (Robin) of Dublin, and Tracy Boatright (Brad) of Mount Vernon; 8 grandchildren; 5 nieces and nephews; and 7 great-nieces and great-nephews.
