Swainsboro, Georgia • March 10, 2021 ONE DOLLAR One injured in Gumlog Road shooting COMMISSIONER HUGH FOSKEY, SHERROD, CULBRETH, COMMISSIONER JAMES CANADY AND CLARK BREAKING GROUND County breaks ground for new Emergency Operations Center At approximately 7:08 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021, approximately 30 young people were play ing basketball on Gum- log Road. According to Sheriff Jeffrey Brewer, a small group of young men drew weapons and be gan firing. Everyone ran from the scene. A 16-year-old juvenile was struck in the back. The juvenile went to a nearby residence and EMS was called. The juvenile was trans ported to Augusta where he was treated and re leased. Several individu als have been identified, all juveniles. On Thursday, March 4, community mem bers from throughout the county were present for the 10 a.m. ground breaking for Emanuel County's new Emergency Operations Center at 110 East Moring Street. Guest speakers were County Administrator L. Guy Singletary, Emanuel County 911 Director/ EMA Director Martha Culbreth, Emanuel County Commissioner's Chairman Jim Sherrod, Jamie Clark with the Department of Corrections, and Emanuel County Sheriff's Office Major Nick Robertson who led in prayer prior to groundbreaking. Architectural work for the operation center will be conducted by James W. Buckley & Associates, Inc. "Emanuel County is home for us so we are always excited for the opportunity to work on a project that can make a difference locally. We designed The Emergency Operations Center with the community in mind to ensure the facility will benefit everyone who utilizes the space," stat ed Craig Buckley with Buckley & Associates, Inc.
