The Forest-Blade • www.EmannelCoimtyLive.com • Swainsboro, Georgia • August 25, 2021 5A Owen Bellamy, Sr., 80 Mr. Owen Bellamy, Sr., 80, of Swainsboro, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021, at Emanuel Medical Center following a brief illness. Graveside service was private on Sunday. An open visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. was Sunday, August 22, at Chapman Funeral Home. Family was not present during this time due to Covid safety. Pallbearers were Eddie Lewis, Glen Chalker, Asa Garrett, Donny Garrett, Richard Daniels, and Charles Garrett. Mr. Bellamy was born February 5, 1941, in Swainsboro, to the late Tommy W. Bellamy, Sr. and Jeanette Lindsey Bel lamy. He was a fun-lov ing and hardworking man. At a young age, he helped his family start the Highway 56 Drive- In. Owen learned to run a tractor, and built the ramps for the cars to park at the drive-in. He spent many nights working at the show. After gradu ating from Swainsboro High School in 1959, he joined the National Guard. Then later in the 1960s, he found a passion for aviation. Mr. Bella my obtained his pilot's license and began a jour ney of 18,000 hours of flight time. He flew for many people, includ ing former U.S. Senator, David Gambrell. Mr. Bel lamy also enjoyed crop dusting, and shared many stories of the char ter work and the many adventures he went on over the years. He loved to make you laugh. If you were around him any length of time, he would make sure he had a good joke to tell you. Owen also had an ear for all things mechanical. As a young boy, he once took apart his own motorcy cle just to see if he could put it back together. This led to a life of all things fast; motorcycles, air planes, and race cars. He lived life to the fullest every day and never talk ed about any regrets. In 1980, Mr. Bellamy met the love of his life, Chris Hudson Bellamy. They would later spend the next 40 plus years work- BELLAMY ing side-by-side and rais ing a family together. His love for his family was always his motivation. If you were part of his inner circle, you knew it. Most recently, Owen retired and began to spend more time with his beloved grandsons, Bowen and Hudson. He was already instilling in them the importance of work and family. We will always remember him as being a man of his word and having a generous heart. He will be deeply missed by those that loved him the most. Mr. Bellamy is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kath erine Michelle Bellamy; and stepson, Larry Mar vin Collins II. Survivors include his wife, Chris Hudson Bel lamy of Swainsboro; children, Louis Owen Bellamy Jr. (Shanne) of Crawfordville, Florida, Lake Richard Bellamy of Tallahassee, Florida, Angela Jeanette Bellamy of Panama City, Flor ida, Lindsey Sky Bel lamy Ware (Jansen) of Swainsboro; grandchil dren, Louis Owen Bella my III (Cheryl), Kari-Lin Smith Swygert, Trey Col lins (Emmerson), Ernest Chandler, Ashley Deffert (Karl), Carlton Vinson, Samuel Bowen Ware, and Hudson Joe Ware; sisters, Sara Elizabeth Wilkinson (Doug) of Swainsboro, Carolyn Dianette Bella my of Statesboro, and Patricia Bellamy Brown of Swainsboro; brothers, Tommy Willard Bella my Jr. and Tony Mark Bellamy (Donna), both of Swainsboro; sever al great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Franchille Burnadette (Berkley) Oglesby, 72 Franchille Burnadette (Berkley) Oglesby com pleted her earthly assign ment on August 12, 2021 at the age of 72. Graveside service was August 17, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Church in Garfield with Bishop K.E. McNeal offi ciating. Ms. Oglesby was born November 8, 1948, in Milford, Delaware, to the late Marian and Weldon Berkley, and the late Josiah Murray. Growing up, she was affection ately known as "Prissy". She received her high school diploma from Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia, PA in 1966, where she was an exceptional tennis play er. On January 11, 1969, Ms. Oglesby became the bride of Charlie Lewis Oglesby. In 1976, they made the decision to move their young family to Charlie's hometown, Garfield. Ms. Oglesby loved her family and her Lord. She was a dedicat ed member of Mt. Zion Church in Garfield for OGLESBY over 40 years. Over the years, she held multiple positions at the church, and especially enjoyed working with the youth. Her most recent posi tion was "Mother of the Church". Ms. Oglesby leaves to cherish her memo ries with her three chil dren; brother; great- aunt; daughter-in-law; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; a host of nieces, neph ews, family, friends, and church family. Rachael Julia Sherrod Akridge, 41 Ms. Rachael Julia Sherrod Akridge, 41, of Metter, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Candler Coun ty Hospital in Metter following a brief illness. A private graveside ser vice was held Tuesday, August 24, at Union Grove United Method ist Church Cemetery with Reverend Randy Adams officiating. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Mon day, August 23, at Chap man Funeral Home. Ms. Akridge was born November 16, 1979, in Augusta, to Donald Sherrod and Cynthia Davis. She was a Swainsboro High School graduate. Rachael held a position as Credit Manager at Farmers Home Furni ture in Metter for several years, and more recent ly had a job working at Transitions Learning Center in Statesboro. Ms. Akridge loved her work family, work kids, and the work itself; she loved them all as if they were her own blood. There was nothing she wouldn't do for some one and if she couldn't help, she knew someone who could. Ms. Akridge was a strong woman because she came from a strong family, and she then made a strong family. She had two sons, Jimmy and Park er, and two daughters, Julianna and Rebecca. Ms. Akridge was born to be a "mama" and a caregiver. She is now at the gates of Heav en rejoicing with many friends and loved ones; AKRIDGE she is finally healthy and at peace. Rachael is no longer suffering, but celebrating with the ones who went before her. She was a joy and helped everyone she ever met, and always had a smile and treat ed everyone she met as family. Ms. Akridge is preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Akridge; paternal grandparents, John Edward Sherrod and Betty Jean Denton; maternal grandmother, Mary Julia Davis; father-in-law and moth- er-in-law, M.D. Akridge and Ann Akridge. Survivors include her father, Don (Audrey) Sherrod of Midville; mother, Cynthia Davis of Metter; companion, Joseph Akridge; son, Parker Harrill of Met ter; daughters, Julianna Akridge and Rebecca Akridge, both of Met ter; grandson, Mitchell Purvis; brother, David (Destiny) Biggs of Evans; sister, Natalie Sherrod Sills of Brook let; maternal grandfa ther, Cecil Davis; uncle, Gerald Denton; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Chapman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Phyllis W. Williams, 79 Mrs. Phyllis W. Wil liams, 79, of Swains boro, passed away Tues day, August 17, 2021, at Emanuel County Nurs ing Home following an extended illness. Grave side service was held August 19, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Primitive Bap tist Church Cemetery with Reverend Hal Wil son officiating. Pallbearers were Tylan Hardy, John Hardy, Craig Williamson, Tyler Wil liamson, Billy Freeman, and Troy Standridge. Mrs. Williams was born December 31, 1941, to E. L. Williamson and Edna Earl Durden Williamson. She was a simple lady who enjoyed doing yard work, and was of the Bap tist faith. Ms. Williams is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bobby Williamson and Kenneth Williamson; and sister, Janice Rogers. Survivors include her son, Terry (Sue) Edenfield of Soperton; daughter, Tonia (Eddie) Clinton of Edgewater, FL; caregiv er, Barbara Williamson of Swainsboro; 2 grand daughters; 3 great-grand children; several niec es, nephews, and many friends.
