March is peanut month
Governor and Georgia Capitol celebrate with Peanut Commission
By Joe Brady, Editor
for
The Times
The Georgia Peanut
Commission kicked off
National Peanut Month and
National Peanut Butter Lovers
Day at the Georgia Capitol
last week. The peanut industry
represents Georgia’s largest
industry. Governor Kemp
presented a proclamation
recognizing March as
National Peanut Month.
Chairman of the Georgia
Peanut Commission said,
“Peanuts are Georgia’s official
state crop and produces 52%
of the nation’s production.
Georgia’s 4,000 peanut
farmers contribute almost
$2billion annually to the state
and local economy.”
As part of the celebration, $10k of peanut butter was presented to the Atlanta Food Bank. The nonprofit supplies 700
partner agencies with hunger relief programs throughout 29 counties.
Coincidentally, March is National Nutrition Month - a great time to recognize the nutritional value of peanuts. One
serving of peanuts is a good source of protein, vitamin E, niacin, folate, phosphorus and magnesium. Peanuts are naturally
cholesterol-free and low in saturated fat.
3rd Nine Weeks ending
Jenkins County
students will soon
see the end of the

That means those
