The nature of these scams range from the caller being from a "government agency" i.e.. The Sheriffs Office, Federal Courthouse, Border Patrol, etc. Scammers are using actual Sheriffs Office employee's names to make the calls appear legitimate. “We have also had multiple reports of individuals being victims of online scams including items for sale via social media websites that request money prior to delivering an item, dating websites requesting money to keep your personal information private, and job postings that request an individual’s personal, identifying information and the infomiation is then used fraudulently,” Chief Herrington warns. “If you receive any such call/ email that may be similar to these, hang up the phone or delete the email,” Sheriff Oglesby says. “You may also call us with any questions you have about the validity of these calls.” The Sheriff’s office may be reached at 478-982-4211 and the Millen Police Department at 478-982- 2750. FINALLY, a car stops the train in its tracks! In a twist of fate, the train was stopped on the tracks again but not for obvious reasons. This time, the train had to wait until a car could be cleared from the tracks. Early Wednesday morning a vehicle misjudged the roadway and drove off the paved vehicle crossing. No one was hurt except for feelings and pride. After an hour, the train could go about its merry way. Photo by D.
