Evelyn commented, "The most trying time in my life was from 1939-1945 during WWII. Everything was rationed but it was also a very special time. We as a people learned to love each other, share with each other, we learned to support our country, serve our country, and never complain! We did without shoes (rationed too). That's when artificial shoes came into being. That is a shoe made out of anything but leather." "I am truly patriotic," she continued. Through the years, Evelyn has collected many things; arrowheads, pocketknives, demitasse cups/saucers, and bird stuff. She is an accomplished gardener (just take one look at the flowering plants in her yard. She is also a member of the Millen Garden Club and the 8 o'clock Coffee Club. She LOVES riding bikes and even used to collect Blue Horse paper bands (like wrapping for a package of writing paper) to turn in and get a bike. Through the years she saved enough to get NINE bicycles. She still has 4 of those along with her daughters first. Her daughter, Marcia Young, is also a retired teacher near Atlanta. A big accomplishment in Evelyn’s life was to be chosen to be a torch bearer for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. During our interview we discussed: Q. As Admission Director, she not only oversees incoming new residents, but stays in constant contact with many Hospitals and Rehab Centers, as well as family members, to make sure that the residents always receive exceptional care and outstanding rehabilitation. “What I love most about Bethany is the family atmosphere in this facility,” said Sherri, “Once you become a part of Bethany, whether you are a patient, employee, or related to a patient or employee, you are a part of our family.” Married to her, as she calls him, “Wonder Spouse,” Jeff Adams, with beautiful twin daughters, Brittney and Breanna and 4 grandchildren, Sherri has plenty of experience with family. “Brittney and Breanna, are both nurses, JORDAN Continued from page 3 as he chipped and sculpted the stone in his hands there on the front steps of the church. It had gotten late, and the preacher was so bothered by the stone mason's attention to that one stone. He got up and approached the old man and posed a question to ease his mind. "Why are you spending so much time and effort on that one stone. Sir," he said? I have just been over there watching and I've noticed you have not gotten much done. The old stone mason sat up and pointed a linger skyward. He said, "Son, do you see that little gap in the stonework, way up there at the top of that spire?" The preacher fixed his gaze up high and strained to see the small place where a single stone was indeed missing. The old mason continued. fiumns That Touch the flgart k ~ w "He hideth my Soul" relied on the Lord and turned to him for strength, comfort and renewal of the spirit and soul. This is a hymn that talks about how Jesus is a wonderful savior who takes away burdens and gives strengthl. The hymn also talks about how Jesus hides the soul in the cleft of the rock and covers it with His hands. It is about finding refuge and protection in Jesus' love. Sing with me.... my soul in the debths of his love , and covers me there with his hand. Yes, he covers ME there with his hand", as tears ran down her face. She added the word 'yes" to make it personal. He Hideth My Soul was written by Fanny Crosby in 1890. As an infant, Fanny Crosby lost her eyesight due to fever and poor ministrations in her care. She lived the rest of her life blind, but later stated “If I had a choice, I would still choose to remain blind... for when I die, the first face I will ever see will be the face of my blessed Saviour.” As a young woman she went to the New York Institution for the Blind. While there she met Alexander Van Alystyne, who joined the faculty alongside her. She later wrote “After hearing several of my poems he became deeply interested in my work; and I after listening to his sweet strains of music became interested in him. Thus we soon grew to be very concerned for each other...love met love, and all the world was changed. We were no longer blind, for the light of love showed us where the lilies bloomed.” The couple were married on March 5, 1858. The couple had a child who died as an infant. Fanny mourned the loss of her child for the remainder of her life. Sadly, her marriage did not last and the couple eventually separated. He Hideth My Soul is were both married in 2015;” Brittany married Brit Bird and Breanna married Blais Many years ago I had the pleasure of singing in a Billy Graham Crusade. It was a thrill to be asked. Now, when you sing for one of these Crusades, you are given a topic from the sermon that Mr. Graham was going to preach, and asked to find something that is scripturally based on his sermon. The topic was "The depth's of his love". I prayed, I thought and I searched, and finally came up with a few songs that would fit and settled on the hymn "He hideth my soul." It was just one of those hymns that I loved, but more than that, my Grandmother Fanny J Crosby loved it too. Every night I can remember, she would sit in a rocker and read scripture from her Bible and sing a hymn. This was one of those hymns that she sang often. Now, Granny (as we called her) was not a grand singer by no means, but in her tender soft voice, I would hear her sing, "He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock, that shadows a dry thirsty land, he hideth He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock That shadows a dry, thirsty land; He hideth my life in the depths of His love, And covers me there with His hand. And covers me there with His hand. A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord, He taketh my burden away; He holdeth me up and I shall not be moved. He giveth me strength as my day. With numberless blessings each moment He crowns. And, filled with His fullness divine, I sing in my rapture, oh, glory to God, For such a Redeemer as mine! When clothed in His brightness, transported I rise To meet Him in clouds of the sky. His perfect salvation, His wonderful love. I’ll shout with the millions on high Pruitt Bethany to hold fundraiser Chance. “And both have blessed me with 2 beautiful grandchildren, Breely and Bennett, who are both 5 years old, and AnnaBlais and Blakelyn, who are both 1 year old. There is just something about twins doing everything together,” Sherri laughed, “I am very proud of my girls.” “I can say being in a rural area, it has not always been a dream, but the team we have at this facility makes it worth the work,” Sherri said. “I am so grateful for Pruitt Bethany. I have enjoyed serving our patients. The residents and staff have brought joy to my life. They are all known as part of my family as well.” A proud member of the Women’s Club, Chamber Board, Rotary Club, and Connection Church of Millen, Sherri is a vital part of this community and loved by all. "I'm working on this down here so it will fit when it gets up there." At that moment the preacher felt a peace wash over his heart and mind. He heard the Lord speaking to his heart as the stone mason spoke those words. It is true that we all suffer down here on this earth. None of us are immune to the pain that this suffering brings our way. We, like the stone, are shaped by the Master down here so we will fit perfectly into His kingdom some wonderful day. Keep reaching for your dreams and keep on doing good, even though bad things may come your way. Know that there is a master craftsman at work in your life and the He will make all things new one day soon.
