This past Saturday over 200 people from 11 nearby counties came out to Baygall this past
weekend to participate and watch a skeet shooting event. The skeet shooting event was a modified
trap. The Jenkins County 4-H modified trap team participated in the district qualifier event. Jenkins
County 4-H had 13 participants qualify for the state competition. Those 13 participants are Gatlin
Muns, Caleb Bryant, Reid Weathersby, Mason Lambert, Kamen Guzman, Lane Bowers, Tom Black,
Brie Dryer, Kaylen Bragg, Allison Gaiser, Hunter Fleming, Judson Godbee, and Jabari Miller. Their
coaches are Anthony Black, Jody Bryant, and Horace Horace Weathersby, as well as Jenkins County
4-H agent, Hadley Briggs. Briggs stated that, “she and the entire Jenkins County 4-H extension office
are super proud of all their participants and wished the state qualifiers good luck, ‘you got this’, at the
state skeet shooting event next month at Rock Eagle Conference Center.”
At the competition, there were 3 certified coaches, with each participant standing on line with a coach
pulling targets and feeding them shells. There is also a scorer. Once the scores get turned in, they
are verified by competition officials to then be sent out to the various 4H county offices. The ratio
for coaches to participants is one coach to five youth participants. Anyone interested in becoming a
certified coach can go to a training taking place at Rock Eagle in either September or January. The
training event is an all-expenses paid trip, with the only exception being that you are responsible for
getting yourself to training.
Briggs stated that, “she and the entire Jenkins County 4-H extension office are super proud of all their
participants and wished the state qualifiers well at the state skeet shooting event next month at Rock
Eagle Conference Center. The staff at the Times also wants to congratulate all participants on a job
well done and look forward to following your progress at Rock Eagle Conference Center in Eatonton
this coming Mother’s Day weekend.
