It’s Children’s Book
Week! Bring your little
ones to the library this
week and explore our
wonderful collection
of children’s books.
Whether they want to read
a classic like BLACK
BEAUTY or a fun modem
book like CAPTAIN
UNDERPANTS, we can
help them leam to love
reading - and kids who
read, succeed!
Of course, we know some
people have trouble getting
to the library, including
children. That’s why, in
addition to the Libby app
which lets you check out
eBooks and downloadable
audiobooks from anywhere
that has internet service, we
have eRead Kids available
on our homepage at www.
sjrls.org ! All eRead Kids
books are created for
children, and many of them
even offer the read along
option. All you need to
use the eRead Kids app is
a valid library card!
Speaking of great
ways to help your kids
leam to love reading, our
Storytime’s on Tuesdays at
3:30 pm are a terrific way
to do it! We will read them
a wonderful story, and then
do an activity related to the
story with them.
Another fun thing for the
kids when you bring them
to the library is our Crafts
to Go kits. Just come up
to the desk, ask for a Craft
To Go, and you’ll get a
fun craft that you can take
home and make on your
own schedule!
The library is currently
host to a touring exhibit
called “Georgia’s Response
to the Holocaust: Survivors
and Liberators.” It tells
the stories of some of the
survivors and liberators
of Nazi concentration
camps who were either
Georgians or who became
Georgians after the World
War II. This exhibit is
made possible through a
partnership between the
Georgia Commission on
the Holocaust and the
Georgia Public Library
Service. The exhibit will
be available in the library’s
multipurpose room until
Tuesday, May 16.
The Jenkins County
Memorial Library
Board meeting has been
rescheduled to Thursday,
May 4 at 10:30 am at the
library. The Screven-
Jenkins Regional Library
Board will meet on
Thursday, May 11 at 4
pm in the Screven County
Library.

COOKING
WITH THE
CHURCH
LADY
PAM JESION
This week (after accidently dumping out a drawer filled
with a rather large number of recipes tom out of magazines
and newspapers, along with a couple of handmade books
of family recipes), there were bags of cara-cara citms at the
grocery! Coming from Florida, these oh-so-good orange/
tangerine-like fruits have a very short period of time when
they are available, but they inspired a search among all
those tattered scraps of recipes for citms based recipes.
Fresh Orange Tart (from a 2015 paper)
Vi cup vanilla wafer crumbs
3 Tbsp melted butter
3 Tbsp sugar
Vi cup orange juice
2 tsp finely grated orange peel
Vi cup sugar
5 egg yolks, beaten
Vi cup heavy cream
3-4 oranges, tangerines
Preheat oven to 350. Combine crumbs, butter & 3 Tbsp
sugar. Press into 9” pie plate & bake for 10 minutes.
Whisk together juice, peel and Vi cup sugar until sugar
dissolves. Whisk in egg yolks and cream. Pour into pie
cmst and bake for 30 minutes, until completely set.
Cool completely before covering and refrigerating for at
least three hours.
Peel citms fruit, cut into circles and arrange on top of tart
before serving.
Grilled Citrus Chicken
Chicken pieces of choice (maybe a couple pounds)
!4 cup olive oil
1 lemon
1 orange
2 limes
2 tsp each chopped fresh thyme/parsley/sage
1 tsp salt
Vi tsp pepper
Put chicken in container or Ziploc bag. Combine all other
ingredients and add to chicken. Mix (or shake) well.
Marinate in refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably
overnight. Grill until no longer pink in center of chicken
pieces.
