When we are small
children, we make a
homemade card for our
mother or pick a flower
out of the yard and give
it to her. As we grow up,
we buy more expensive
gifts like chocolate candy,
flower arrangements from
a florist, jewelry, clothes,
and other things. During
our lifetimes, it's important
to leam to appreciate our
mother more. We need to
always continue to give
her gifts she can hold but
we also need to give our
mother a boost by spending
time with her and letting
her know that she made a
difference in our lives.
What is the best
Mother’s Day Gift?
As we begin the Mother’s
Day month, it would be
good and appropriate to
thank our mothers every
day of the month of May
for all the times they lost
sleep for us, put aside their
personal plans for us and
stood by us when nobody
else did. Perhaps the best
gift we give our mothers is
to follow their wise advice
today. Most of us wish
we would have listened
to Mama sooner. Then
we would be happier and
richer in so many ways.
The Bible speaks about
Pastor Bill Kent,
Memorial Baptist Church
Sylvania, GA
Honoring
Mothers
the service and sacrifice of
Mothers. Their love for us
is incredible and we should
make sure we thank them
often and do what we can
to make them feel special.
"She opens her mouth with
wisdom, and on her tongue
is the law of kindness. She
watches over the ways of
her household and does not
eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise and call
her blessed; Her husband
also, and he praises her,"
(Proverbs 31:26-28).
If we didn't have
Mothers, then we wouldn't
know how to walk, talk and
do so many other things
that we do without thinking
today. When Paul spoke
about Timothy being an
outstanding young man,
he commented about the
greatness of his spiritual
heritage through his mother
and grandmother. "I thank
God, whom I serve with
a pure conscience, as my
forefathers did, as without
ceasing I remember you in
my prayers night and day...
when I call to remembrance
the genuine faith that is in
you, which dwelt first in
your grandmother Lois and
your mother Eunice, and
I am persuaded is in you
also," (2 Timothy 1:3,5).

Elizabeth
Landing
Elizabeth Landing
was bom and raised
in Jenkins County and
grew up in the Four
Points Community. After
graduating from Jenkins
County High School, she
attended Georgia Southern
University. She and her
husband, Ray, who have
been married 54 years
this coming June, have
two wonderful children,
Chris Landing and Nicole
Braswell. Mrs. Landing
is referred to as “NeNe”
to her four beautiful
granddaughters and one
great granddaughter. As the
former Clerk of Superior
Court for six consecutive
terms, first elected in
1996, Elizabeth considers
it an honor and a privilege
to have served Jenkins
County up until 2020
when she retired. Now she
enjoys her retirement days
by working in her yard,
reading, volunteering at her
church, Millen Methodist,
and spending time with her
children, granddaughters,
and great granddaughter!
When asked what words
of wisdom she had to offer
the next generation, this is
what she had to say, “Thank
and praise God when you
begin each day. Love and
appreciate your family and
friends and tell them you
love them often. Life goes
by so quickly. And always
remember the golden rale:
treat others as you want to
be treated.”

“The Mouse
Problem”
Proverbs 28:13- The one
who conceals his sins will
not prosper, but whoever
confesses and renounces
them will find mercy.
I’ve been dealing
with a mouse problem
at my house. Somehow,
someway a family of mice
decided to move into my
home. I don’t know where
they came from or how
they got in, but they make
their presence known
every night when the house
gets quiet, and the lights
grow dim. After everyone
has gone to bed and it's just
me feeding my daughter
her nighttime bottle, 1 see
a little dark speck streak
across the floor. It is a
tiny mouse, headed for the
promised land - our pantry!
Because the mice are
small and I’d never seen
more than one at a time, I
thought I could handle the
problem. No need for the
pest exterminator here - I
can handle this; these are
just a few tiny mice. It turns
out that it doesn't matter
how small the individual
mouse is - one mouse can
do some serious damage to
food in the pantry. I might
catch the mouse in the
morning, but at what cost?
Three more things must
be thrown away the next
morning.
Finally, I broke down,
admitted that I could
not and cannot fix the
problem, and called the
exterminator. He came
into our home, got out his
flashlight, and inspected
every possible place that
the mice could be coming
in and moving around.
At every possible access
point, he laid out a trap.
Then he went under our
house and placed a large
bait box, to kill them at the
source. Our small mouse
problem was a lot larger
problem than I thought,
and I realized I couldn’t
handle it on my own - I
needed outside help.
You might share
something in common
with me - you might have
a mouse problem too. You
might have the tiniest little
mice running around your
house when all grows
quiet, and the lights dim.
They are quiet and quick,
sometimes you don’t even
notice them - but they
cause considerable damage
and loss. The mice that
I’m referring to are hidden
sins and your house is your
heart and life.
“Whoever conceals his
sins will not prosper, but
the one who confesses them
and renounces them will
find mercy.” We believe
that these sins are no big
deal - we can handle them.
It won’t happen again,
I’ll be wiser next time,
I can set the right traps,
but the mice run free. The
mice eat away at the good
things stored up in our
life - sin takes you farther
than you're willing to go,
keeps you longer than
you’re willing to stay, and
costs you more than you’re
willing to pay. The truth is
that we need outside help.
We need to confess and
renounce our sins to Jesus
and let Him come in and
extemiinate the sins that
we have been living with.
We need Him to shine His
light on every comer and
crevice of our lives and
point out the places where
the sins are entering. And
only Jesus can deal with
sin at its source.
Today is the day to get
rid of mice! 1 John 1:9
says, “If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and
righteous to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness.” Call
the Extemiinator - confess
your sin to Jesus, express
your need for Him alone to
get rid of them, and ask for
forgiveness and cleansing.
If you pray according to 1
John 1:9, Jesus will forgive
your sins and cleanse you
from all unrighteousness.
