CHEESE
HU SHPUPPIE S
This is a neat idea for a snack or as an appetizer for
any occasion. This is a twist on the hush puppies that are
normally cooked with fish.
You only need 3 ingredients for this, and everyone will
love it.

Red Cord program gives graduates sense
of community service
Cup shredded mozzarella cheese 1 egg
3 tbs cooking starch
Mix the ingredients well together, using your hands.
Once the mixture is well mixed into a dough
consistency.
Pinch off and roll into small balls in your hand, about
the size of a hush puppy. In a pot, heat cooking oil and
once the oil is hot, place balls into the grease and fry until
golden brown. Remove from oil and place on paper towels
to dry.
These cheese hushpuppies are delicious.

The Jenkins County
Chamber of Commerce
and the FFA program had
hoped every graduate
would be sporting the red
cord. “We fell short of that
this year, but there are 65
graduates in the 2024 class,
maybe we can achieve
100% participation next
year!” Says Mandy
Underwood, Chamber
Director.
The Red Cord program
is sponsored by Shepeard
Blood Center. If a student
donates three times within
a school year, they can
wear the red cord. If the
student has been deferred
and can’t donate blood,
then someone can donate
for them. Students have
until May 31 to donate
and still receive credit.
And the good thing is,
if you aren’t graduating,
keep donating, the red
cord will be put up just for
you when the time comes.
For more information
contact Shepeard Blood
Community Blood Center
by emailing info@

The next blood drive
will be held at the Chamber
of Commerce office on
Tuesday, May 30 from 2-6
p.m.

If you are entering
the 11th grade this year
when school starts
back in August, guess
what? It’s immunization
time. According to a
press release from the
Department of Public
Health as the Times was
headed to press, “if your
child is 16 years of age
or older and entering the
11th grade this year, that
student must have received
one booster dose of the
meningococcal conjugate
vaccine (MCV4), unless
their initial dose was
administered on or after
their 16 th birthday.”
According to the press
release.
To avoid the back-to-
school rush, the Jenkins
County Health Department
encourages parents to
schedule the
immunization with
their pediatrician,
GP, or the health
department.
Meningococcal
disease is a serious
bacterial illness
that affects the
brain and the spinal
cord. Meningitis
can cause shock, coma,
and death within hours
of the first symptoms.
Getting vaccinated against
meningococcal disease
now will help protect your
child against the ongoing
threat of meningitis. As
your pediatrician or local
health department about
other vaccines your child
may need such as the
human papillomavirus
(HPV) series, tetanus,
diphtheria, pertussis shot
(Tdap or Td booster),
annual flu vaccine, and
other vaccines your child
may be behind on such as
chickenpox, MMR, and
hepatitis B.
For more information,
please contact the Jenkins
County Health Department
at 478-982-2811 or your
local physician.
