Page 6 - Friday, May 19, 2023 The Jenkins County Times thejenkinscountytimes.com Georgia Agriculture Commodity Commission Seeking Nominations Special to The Times The following Georgia Agriculture Commodity Commissions are seeking nominations of producers to serve on the following commodity commissions- Apple Blueberry Com Cotton Equine Milk Peaches Pecan Soybean Tobacco Vegetable Wine & Grape Citms A producer can nominate themself, be nominated by someone else, or by an affiliated organization of that commodity. Appointments for the commissions are made by the Commodity Commission Ex Officio Committee in July and a term for a commission appointment is three years. A commission member can be reappointed for additional terms. A commission member’s responsibility is to represent the producers of that commodity by attending periodic meetings and making decisions on behalf of the producers. Georgia Agriculture Commodity Commissions were created by the Georgia General Assembly starting in the sixties at the request of the producers of the commodity. These commissions help producers by representing and supporting the commodity. Funds or assessment collected through farmer approved market order may be used for research, education, and promotion of the commodity. Most of the commissions allocate a vast portion of the funds to research projects. Applicant would be responsible for general duties of engaging directly in firefighting, rescue, and fire prevention activities. May 24 - Run Across Georgia 2023, May 24, 10:00 am - May 28 @ 8:00 pm EDT The Run/Ride Across Georgia is a 277.2 mile run that starts in Tybee Island, Geor gia and transitions through the plains of middle Georgia. The route is a gentle slop ing uphill run through the back roads of Georgia and finishing in Columbus. Run ning relay teams can consist of up to 16 people, cycling teams can have up to 8. Both can also be done individually. Tuesday, May 30: The community blood drive will be held at the Chamber of Commerce building in stead of the JCMC. The blood drive will take place between 2-6 p.m. at 548 Cotton Ave. A free limited edition beach towel will be distributed to donors.
