A WORD TO THE WISE
Reverend Walter H.Hall
Grace Community Church
Perkins, GA
“GIVE HONOR
TO WHOM
HONOR IS DUE”
Over and over in the
Scriptures we are exhorted
to give honor to those who
are due honor. On May
28, 2023, we celebrated
Memorial Day to honor
those who gave their lives
for our country and to keep
it free so we can have our
civil liberties.
If we are wise, we give
honor to God, to family,
and to country in that order.
We do it in this manner,
because first there was
God, and then. He created
man and woman for family,
and out of their family,
finally, became a country.
The proper honor, respect,
and tribute that is given
will go a long way to heal
the divisions in our country
and bring us peace and true
justice, not mob justice or
vigilante justice.
The writer of Proverbs
exhorts us to: “Honor the
Lord with thy substance
and with the first fruits of
all thine increase: So, shall
thy bams be filled with
plenty, and thy presses
shall burst out with new
wine.” (Proverbs 3:9, 10).
When God is honored first,
it puts all other things in
their proper order and
evokes the fountains of
God’s blessings upon
us. Put God first and be
blessed.
Moses received the
commandment from
the Lord for our family.
Exodus 20:12 states:
“Honor thy father and thy
mother: that thy days may
be long upon the land which
the Lord thy God giveth
thee.” Paul in his epistle
to the Ephesians amplifies
this for those “in Christ”.
He says, “Honor thy father
and mother; (which is the
first commandment with
promise); That it may be
well with thee, and thou
mayest live long on the
earth.” (Ephesians 6:2,
3). To honor our parents
is to be blessed by God
with long life. For those
who were raised in my
generation where the
parents actually believed
in not sparing the rod, but
spanking for discipline’s
sake, we learned it paid to
honor them so we could sit
down the next week.
Finally, Peter sums
up the giving of honor
in I Peter 2:17. He says,
“Honor all men. Love the
brotherhood. Fear God.
Honor the king. Peter
covered all bases, God,
family, and country. The
God of peace will keep
us at peace in our family,
communities, and country
if we leam to give honor
and respect all men. God
Bless!

at the Jenkins
County Senior
Citizen Center
Welcome Lisa Dailey to the Jenkins County Senior
Center.. ..no, she’s not that old.. ..yet!
Lisa began working here at the Center a few months ago
and she fit in just like an old shoe.
Lisa was the director at the recreation department for
many years working with hundreds of children over the
years and now she’s working with their grandparents.
Before becoming the director at the recreation department,
most will remember Lisa owning a mobile food tmck. She
provided breakfast and lunch and served the employees who
worked at the Industrial Park and people around Millen for
many years. Now that was a lot of food! She eventually
started up a small take out restaurant.
Lisa also does catering. She caters small private dinners
to big receptions. She has whipped us up some good stuff to
eat from time to time here. That’s why we had to incorporate
our daily walking and exercise now!
Lisa has really been creative with some of our activities
and art projects. Sometimes we have questioned what all
must be in her head with some of her ideas and games she
has us doing! One thing for sure, she has kept us on our
toes and has us trying things we didn’t think we could do.
When Lisa arrived on her first day, you could hear
comments like “I know that girl”, “I saw her at the
Recreation Department when my son played ball”, “Oh,
I’ve eaten some of her food before” ... “she’s gonna do
good here”
Make sure to check out our face book page and you’ll
always see Lisa in the pictures giving us a workout!
We are so glad and fortunate to have Lisa with us...
Welcome!

“The Chick-fil-A
Drive-Thru Line”
Chick-fil-A is known for
two things: a great chicken
sandwich and exceptional
customer service. Their
chicken sandwich is so
good, some have called it
“the Lord’s chicken” in jest.
Their customer service
is so exceptional that it
really has become the one
place you can count on not
to have a bad experience,
and if you do happen to
have a bad experience, it’s
a complete shock! Three
things are guaranteed
in life: death, taxes, and
exceptional Chick-fil-A
customer service. What
amazes me most about
Chick-fil-A though, is their
drive-thru line!
Can we just admit that
we are not good at putting
others first? Especially
on a brief lunch break, on
a Monday, in a fast-food
drive-thru line. Chick-
fil-A’s drive-thru is the
Taj Mahal of drive-thru
lines, with team members
meeting you as soon as
you pull up, to take your
order, and make sure that
your food is ready as soon
as you get to the window
(and many times before
you even get there). It is
a complicated drive-thru
line though, with two lanes
merging into one. However,
what amazes me is that the
same people that will cut
you off in other drive-thru
lines (or even on the road
after you leave Chick-
fil-A) will obediently
and graciously take turns,
letting someone else go
first, to keep the two lanes
merging!
Why does this work at
Chick-fil-A and nowhere
else? What is it about the
Chick-fil-A drive-thru
that’s different? I think
the answer is culture
and leadership. Chick-
fil-A leadership decided
that they would excel at
customer service, so they
built their business with
a service culture. The
key word here is service.
Because Chick-fil-A serves
their customers so well,
that culture of service
influences even rushed-
for-time commuters in the
drive-thru!
While I understand
Chick-fil-A is a secular,
for-profit corporation
and I am not ascribing to
them motives of ministry,
there is a biblical principle
at work here. I would
even argue that the most
successful business models
employ time-tested biblical
principles. The principle
that I see at work is the
principle of serving others
like Jesus. Jesus said in
Luke 22:27, “Who is
greater? The one who sits
at the table to be served, or
the one doing the serving?
Isn’t it the one sitting at the
table? Yet I am among you
as one who serves.”
Jesus set the example
of service, by serving
others Himself. This is
why Paul in Philippians
2:3-5, “Do nothing out of
selfish ambition or conceit,
but in humility consider
others as more important
than yourselves. Everyone
should look not to his own
interests, but rather to the
interests of others. Adopt
the same attitude as that
of Christ Jesus.” Evidently,
the Philippians were
cutting each other off in the
drive-thru line! They were
looking out for themselves
and when Paul needed to
correct them, he used the
example of Jesus being a
servant.
How can you serve
others today? This week?
This year? Is there a
problem at work, at home,
or at church where people
are being self-centered
and “cutting each other
off’? Maybe you are the
problem, and you are
setting the example and
creating a culture of “me-
frrst”. Adopt the attitude of
Christ - “I am among you
as one who serves” - and
see if others don’t rise to
the standard of exceptional
service and follow your
example.
