THE
BLOOD OF
JESUS
When we eat steaks, hamburgers, drumsticks and wings,
we may forget how much hard work took place to get that
meat on our table. Slaughtering cows and chickens is not
easy. It takes a lot of time, strength and determination. After
the meat is carried on trucks to grocery stores, the butchers
also spend long hours cutting up meat. They lift heavy
boxes and carefully cut everything for the public and hope
they don't lose any fingers in the process.
As we read through the Bible, we see a red thread running
from beginning to end. After Adam and Eve sinned, they
needed to be restored to good standing with God. They tried
to redeem themselves by covering themselves with leaves
from trees but that was not enough. Instead, God slayed
some animals to put animal skins on Adam and Eve for a
proper covering. "Also for Adam and his wife the LORD
God made tunics of skin, and clothed them," (Genesis 2:21).
In the Old Testament, animal sacrifice provided the way for
sinful people to approach God.
Besides two of each kind of animal in the Ark, the Lord
instructed Noah to bring some extra animals for sacrifice
when the Lord provided deliverance from the worldwide
flood. Even though Noah was the best man of his generation,
he was still a sinner in need of see PASTOR page 4

There’s no better way to celebrate Father’s Day than to
have a good old fashion cook out. Friday we celebrated
Father’s Day by taking a trip out to Magnolia Springs
State Park and grilling some hamburgers and hotdogs with
all the fixins’. The seniors arrived at our shelter which was
decorated with red and black tablecloths on the tables and
games everywhere. For some reason it seems that the
ladies can outplay the men in the game of horseshoes and
win at com hole just about every time! Some just liked a
good old game of checkers or a card game of Spades.
Before we got down to the serious business of grilling,
we took advantage of wandering around the park while
enjoying the nature around us and watching the squirrels
scatter all around and climbing the pine trees. While
walking down to the springs we watched the turtles
bobbing their heads above the water and then diving down
below. The day wouldn’t be complete without seeing a
couple of alligators sunning on the banks of the springs.
After our lunch, we recognized all of our men and
presented them with a Father’s Day gift bag. We
continued our fun with a little music and dancing.
We couldn’t end our day without a little competition
among our men.. .it didn’t take long to realize that grown
men can’t hula hoop!

“God is Able”
Ephesians 3:20 - “Now
to Him who is able to do
far more abundantly than
all that we ask or think,
according to the power at
work within us. ”
Last week I had the
opportunity to attend
the Ligonier National
Conference in Orlando.
This conference is a
preaching conference and
believe it or not, preachers
need to be preached to
also! After the first night’s
session, while back at the
hotel I received a phone
call from my oldest son,
Jude. He was distraught
and needed my help - he
couldn’t find his Hardy
Boys book. Jude was
beside himself, in tears
because he had searched
everywhere in the house
and couldn’t find his book!
“Daddy, I need you! I know
you can find it. I need to
read it tonight before going
to bed.”
If I was at home, I could
have helped him search
for it, but what he didn’t
understand was that I was
more than 300 miles away.
I did not have the ability to
help him in his time of need.
Talk about feeling helpless!
I felt a deep longing in my
heart to meet his need, but
I was unable to do it.
Ephesians 3:20 tells us a
beautiful truth about God -
He is always able to meet
us with help in our time of
need. God is able. He is
present and He is able. In
fact, Ephesians 3:20 says
that not only is He able,
but He can do far more
abundantly than we ask.
One way this verse is
illustrated in scripture is
through salvation. Romans
5:8 says, “but God shows
his love for us in that
while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.” While
we were still in our sin,
not good, not thinking of,
wanting, or loving the Lord,
and helpless to do anything
to help ourselves, God sent
His son Jesus to die for
us, meeting our greatest
need - to be saved from
sin. Hebrews 7:25 says,
“Consequently, he is able
to save to the uttermost
those who draw near to
God through him, since
he always lives to make
intercession for them.”
Another way Ephesians
3:20 is proved true is
through prayer. God will do
more than we ask, but He
works through our asking
as well. In Matthew 7:7-11,
Jesus uses the illustration
of the love of a father, to
show us the love of our
Heavenly Father towards
His children, ““Ask, and it
will be given to you; seek,
and you will find; knock,
and it will be opened to
you. For everyone who
asks receives, and the
one who seeks finds, and
to the one who knocks it
will be opened. Or which
one of you, if his son asks
him for bread, will give
him a stone? Or if he asks
for a fish, will give him a
serpent? If you then, who
are evil, know how to
give good gifts to your
children, how much more
will your Father who is in
heaven give good things
to those who ask him!”
In “how much more”,
we see the same echo of
Ephesians 3:20, “far more
abundantly”.
God is willing and able
to meet our needs, even
more abundantly than we
can imagine because He
loves us! He showed His
love for us by sending
His son Jesus to die for
our sins. He shows His
love for us by hearing and
answering our prayers. Do
you believe that God is
able? Do you believe that
He loves you and delights
to meet you in your need?
Will we call Him and plead
with Him to help us, like
Jude called and pleaded
with me? Oh, and yes, Jude
found his book!
