USPS is hiking the price
of a stamp to 66 cents
By Joe Brady, Editor
for
The Times
When we open our eyes
Sunday morning, July 9,
the cost of mailing a first-
class letter will cost us
66 cents. A 32% increase
in just 4 years. This is an
increase of 4.8% from
the current 63 cents. The
price hike was announced
in April, This is part of
a 10 year plan to become
more profitable. And under
Postmaster General Louis
DeJoy, that path includes
higher postage rates.
The July price hike will
represent the fifth increase
since 2019, when a forever
stamp cost 50 cents. The
criticism mounts as more
people point out that
customers are paying more
while getting less.
Postmaster General
DeJoy has included this
in his 10-year plan. Under
the plan, the post office
delivery standard slow
down to six days instead of
the customary three days
to any destination in the
continental U.S.
While we worry about
inflation, consider the
USPS price hikes equate
to the cost of a postage
stamp has soared much
higher than a dozen eggs.
Inflation has jumped 20%
in the same period the
USPS has jumped 63%.
The post office explains
the latest price increase
is needed to offset higher
operating expenses, “fueled
by inflation, as well as the
effects of a previously
defective pricing model.
The higher cost for stamps
will provide the postal
service with much needed
revenue to achieve the
financial stability sought
by its delivery for America
10-year plan.” It said in
April.
First class stamps aren’t
the only items going up.
Other postage fees will
also increase on July 9th.
Postcard stamps will rise to
51 cent from 48 cents and
international letters will
rise to $1.50.

County residents. We want our customers to see a familiar face. ” May explained that,
“The Garden Center has about 2 to 3 weeks left before it is ready to be opened.”
Joey held the assistant manager position at the Statesboro store and heard Screven
County customers talk about how one (Tractor Supply} needed to be in Sylvania. “So
here we are,” he said.
Besides Chamber members, local government officials were also present. Frenchees was
