Our latest at work (we have these weird discussions all the time) is how many presidents have a college degree? One thought it was a prerequisite to be president. Two of us thought it wasn’t. Hence, this article. I was surprised by a few things I found. Fewer than 50% of the nation’s first 24 presidents held any kind of college degrees. The most recent that served without a college degree was our 33rd president, Harry S. Truman, who was president until 1953. He attended business college and law school but didn’t graduate from either. In the modem-day history of presidents, it seems that they not only have a college degree but have received them from elite universities in the US. Fact: Every president since George H.W. Bush has held a degree from an Ivy League university. In my opinion you can run for president without a college degree but present day it seems No College Andrew Jackson Martin Van Buren Zachary Taylor Millard Fillmore (no college but founded Universityof Buffalo) Abraham Lincoln (only about a year of formal schooling of any kind) Andrew Johnson (no formal schooling) Grover Cleveland Kile joins Sylvania Ford By Joe Brady, Editor for The Times Ken Kile is back home. That was the first thing he said when we sat down together last week. “I come from a long line of law enforcement, even was an officer myself.” Ken continues. The Sylvania native is the baby of 8. His brother Mike is the oldest. “I like sales, and I like helping people. Ken says one thing that distinguishes him from other car sales reps is his no pressure, laid back attitude. “I sell cars because I want to, not because I have to.” Prior to Sylvania Ford, Ken worked for Vaden Nissan for 15 years, and JC Lewis for 5. The father of two and grandfather of one is single but that gives him more time to concentrate on helping others. “Once you’ve been in public service, all you want to do is serve. That’s what I do here.” Ken is at Sylvania Ford Monday - Saturday 8-6. Or he may be reached by dialing 912-564-7414.
