BRAD ASBURY
WAR EAGRE

The dog days of summer
continue to drag on! The
days after the all-star break
in baseball are quickly
moving on. Most teams
in Major League Baseball
have approximately sixty-
two games left meaning
they have completed
one hundred games! The
anticipated Little League
World Series will be
starting in the weeks ahead.
Fans of baseball will flock
to television to watch the
future stars of baseball
compete to be the best
12-13-year-old team in
the world in Little League
Baseball.
Once you read this, we
will be approximately one
week away from the first
scrimmage game for the
Jenkins County War Eagles.
On August 4 th the War
Eagles will travel to Bryan
County for a scrimmage
game. Scrimmages are
an opportunity to see the
team get some reps, let the
younger guys play, and let
the team start putting all
their hard work into action
on the field.
War Eagle softball was
scheduled for a scrimmage
this past week against
Portal. The game was
canceled due to rain. The
game will be rescheduled
for this week, on Tuesday.
The softball season is
slated to start in the coming
weeks! Band Camp for the
Jenkins County War Eagles
has been taking place.
James McBride will once
again have the War Eagle
marching band ready for
its season. The band has a
busy schedule of practicing
daily, performing for
halftime of road and home
football games, playing
during the football games,
and attending competitions
Under the
Bleachers
on Saturday after a long
Friday night. While
summer band camps are in
the heat, it prepares them
for the months ahead!
The Jenkins County
cheerleaders held their
annual kiddie camp last
week (more information in
next week’s paper). This
annual event allows the
“future” JCHS cheerleaders
a fun environment to
practice their cheer skills!
Cheerleaders also work all
summer in preparation for
the football and basketball
season ahead. The cheer
team is often overlooked
but is a very integral part of
the game day experience!
One thing is for certain
concerning sports it takes
every person involved
to be there! For instance,
once football season starts
there is more to the game
than players on the field.
There are players, coaches,
officials, scorekeepers,
team managers (water
boys), cheerleaders, band
members, fans, concession
stand workers, gate
workers, custodians, and
so many others who make
the day take place. While
fans fill the stands to watch
the action on the field, it
is the cheer team and the
band that helps keep fans
excited. Every person
plays their part.
If life would work like
a gameday experience, we
would be a better place in
this world. During game
day, every person does
their part to make the day
move forward. We should
all strive to do this same
thing in everyday life.
Get out from Under the
Bleachers and do your part
this week, whatever that
part is that you play.
Knight Returns From
Injured List
Bill Knight of Jenkins County started off his first minor
league season on a very high note. Then, a wrist injury
left him sidelined since the month of April. After a short
rehab stint, Knight returned to the Modesto Nuts who is
an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Even though the injury
was a speed bump in the young career of Knight, he has
fought through and continued with impressive numbers.
After 141 at-bats this season, Knight is batting .319,
.400 OBP, and a .840 OPS. In addition, he has 2 home
runs, scored 28 times, 15 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases while
playing right field. Knight is batting leadoff for Modesto.
In a recent game, he went 3 for 6 at the plate with 2 RBIs
and scoring three times. The hope for Knight will continue
to move upward in the Mariner organization.
