Under the
Bleachers
I am not sure if it is cool “Under the Bleachers,” but
walking onto the field of the Jenkins County War Eagles
this past week I learned one thing quickly. That one thing
learned was that it is extremely hot in late July on a playing
field. Football, softball, band, cross country, and cheer are
all out and about in the heat; the heat will only intensify as
the games prepare to start.
This past week, the band was out practicing once again.
I am always amazed by the band. They practice long
hours, perform at home and away football games, travel
to competitions, and perform at other functions. The band,
like the cheer team, will practice and perform nearly year-
round.
Monday afternoon is the trade deadline for Major League
Baseball. There have been a few “blockbuster” trades. The
Mets’ Max Scherzer was sent to the Texas Rangers. This is
showing that the Mets just may be saying, “There is always
next year.” The Braves have done very little as the trade
deadline gets closer; however, they are the best team in
Major League Baseball based on record. Trade deadlines
are a lot like being Under the Bleachers, most of what you
hear is only rumors.
Jenkins County has now released the schedule for JV
football (b-team), and middle school softball and football
(c-teams). These matchups are fun to attend as you get a
glimpse into the future!
As the summer continues to stay hot out there, keep
pressing forward because it is only a season. The seasons
of weather are like seasons in life. We could also say the
seasons are much like the seasons of sports. If you are in one
season, very soon that season will end and the next appears.
Ecclesiastes 3 is the famous wording of King Solomon who
reminds us that there is a season for everything. Ultimately,
we know that God is the God of every season and that He
is in control.
School starts back this week for local students. Be in
prayer for them through this next season of life! God is
faithful and let us tmst Him to be Lord over all that is done!
Pray for the new superintendent. Dr. John Paul Hearn. Pray
for our administration and staff. Pray for the bus drivers,
cafeteria staff, and teachers. If you have to go and stay
Under the Bleachers while you pray, then go there. Just go
and pray as they year starts!
