Around the Area and Region
Football and softball are in full swing as the 2023/2024 season is off and going strong.
Each week in the Jenkins County Times, we will keep up with what is happening in athletics
around the area as the season goes by.
First, in football action regional rival McIntosh County Academy started their season off
against Johnson High School. They shut out Johnson 26-0. Portal started with Hawkinsville
and won by a big margin of 26-0. Metter, under a new head coach, after longtime head
coach Rodney Garvin departed for Vidalia High School, dropped their first game to top-
ranked Swainsboro 39-7.
With the season just getting started, football had fewer games to report. However,
softball is in its third week and several local teams have been getting some games in. Class
A-Division 2 State Champions, ECI, has started off the season with a 3-5 record. This past
week though, they did pull out three wins. They defeated Calvary Day, Toombs County,
and Southeast Bullock; they lost only one game to Perry High School. Regionals rivals
Montgomery County has started there season 3-2, McIntosh County Academy is 1-4, and
Portal is 1-4.
As the football and softball season goes further make sure to check with the Jenkins
County
Times for the best coverage of local athletics.

or those who have ties to Jenkins County who
play sports at EBA, please send those pictures to
pastorbradasbury@gmail.com and we will include
those in the Jenkins County Times. We want to ensure
that we are highlighting all of our Jenkins County
