Wilson Co, Inc. - Long History in Jenkins County For those of you that do not know or have not visited this quaint store located in Jenkins County named, John C. Wilson Co., it is a hardware and farm store that is among the oldest businesses in Jenkins County. They have to best spray to kill weeds that I have ever used. If you want weeds dead, then use it for yourself. Just ask about it. It's beginning came with the business enterprise of John Cain Wilson, the son of John W. and Cynthia Peel Wilson. John C. was born, December 26, 1881 in neighboring Screven County and eventually was a pioneer citizen of Jenkins County. He grew up on a farm and worked from sun-up to sundown. When he became tired of work on the farm, he decided to put his "business mind" to work. He and his uncle, Joe Dicky bought out J.M. Edenfield in 1902. And they opened their first store, called Dickey and Wilson. World War One came along and of course their were many changes. One of those changes was that Mr. Wilson decided to build a store in which he would rent to Stephens home owned Food Store, and it was in that particular business that John C. Wilson & Company began. The store would sell, hardware and supplies on one side and dry goods on the other. John C. Wilson has been in business for a very long time and still sells hardware, farming items, and more. Jenkins County is lucky to have such a great store with great service! Go visit them today and tell them The Jenkins County Times sent you. Until next time, Sam Jenkins County, GA - Jenkins County Elementary School embraced the spirit of family and community last week as it hosted its annual Grandparents Breakfast Day on September 7th and 8th. The event brought together generations, allowing students to share cherished moments with their grandparents while enjoying a delicious breakfast. On Thursday, September 7th, the school welcomed students from PreK, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades and their grandparents. The following day, Friday, September 8th, was dedicated to 4th and 5th-grade students, ensuring that all students had the opportunity to participate. The concept was simple yet heartwarming: grandparents and their young charges were invited to share a special meal in the school's cafeteria. To make it even more special, each adult paid a nominal fee of $3 to partake in the breakfast. For many grandparents, this event was a chance to step back in time and reminisce about their own school days. Principal Randy Dailey expressed his delight at seeing the school community come together in such a heartwarming way. "Grandparents Breakfast Day is one of our favorite events of the year," he said. "It's a beautiful reminder of the importance of family and the role that grandparents play in our students' lives. We cherish these moments." The cafeteria was filled with laughter, smiles, and the clinking of cutlery as students and their grandparents enjoyed a tasty breakfast. Events like Grandparents Breakfast Day not only strengthen family ties but also reinforce the sense of community within Jenkins County Elementary School. It's a reminder that education is not just about academics; it's also about building relationships and treasuring the moments that matter most. Educator Gerry Brooks Inspires Educators to Cultivate Positive School Environments Bv Sarah Saxon, Reporter for The Times Educators from both Screven and Jenkins Counties gathered at the Screven County Auditorium on Tuesday, September 5. Teachers came for a special reason: it was a combined professional learning day, dedicated to the noble task of building a positive school climate and culture. The anticipation in the air was palpable as teachers, principals, and administrators filled the auditorium. They were here to leam, to grow, and to laugh - all thanks to the charismatic educator who was about to grace their stage. His name? Gerry Brooks. Gerry Brooks, a name that has become synonymous with humor and education, has been a devoted educator for a quarter of a century. His journey began in Palm Bay, Florida, where he started as a third-grade teacher. Through dedication and hard work, he ascended the educational ladder, earning a master's degree in administration and eventually serving as an elementary school principal for 12 years. What set Gerry apart from the rest, however, was his unique approach to education. He had initially turned to humor to uplift and inspire his own staff. Over time, his humorous videos gained immense popularity, turning him into a national encourager for teachers. With over 2 million followers on his Facebook page, his comedic routines about school life strike a chord with educators all over the country. But Brooks was more than just a funny guy on social media. He was a voice for the teachers, a champion for their challenges and triumphs. His passion extended beyond the classroom, and he was on a mission to lead others toward Dr. Jim Thompson, Gerry Brooks, and Dr. JP Hearn m ANNUAL HONEY RIDGE EQUIPMENT AUCTION 477 HONEY RIDGE ROAD GUYTON, GA 31312 AUCTION STARTS AT 9 A.M.
