Foggy Field to Upgrade
Water Lines and Fire
Hydrants
By Joe Brady, Editor
for
The Times
Millen - In a significant step towards improving infrastructure and
enhancing safety, Foggy Field is set to undergo a water line replacement
project that will see the upgrade of the existing 1.5" water main to a new 6"
water main. Additionally, the project will introduce two much-needed fire
hydrants along the road, providing vital resources for fire protection and
emergency response.
City Administrator Jeff Brantley shared insights into this essential
development, stating, "We'll come back and bid out resurfacing the road
after the water line is replaced." This proactive approach ensures that not
only will the water infrastructure be modernized, but the road itself will
also receive necessary attention in due course.
Local contractor Shockley Plumbing, Inc. has been awarded the contract
for this critical project, which comes at a cost of $125,850. The selection of
a local contractor underscores the city's commitment to supporting its own
businesses while investing in essential upgrades for the community.
The decision to replace the aging 1.5" water main with a new 6" water
main is expected to have several benefits for Foggy Field residents. This
upgrade will enhance water flow and pressure, ensuring more efficient
water distribution throughout the area. Improved water infrastructure
is not only crucial for daily use but also plays a significant role in fire
protection, which is why the addition of two fire hydrants along the road is
a noteworthy component of this project.
