Some of the tales you can hear at the Senior Center. Just
sit back and listen...
One of our seniors, who we’ll call “James”, was telling
us that a couple of Sundays ago he was sitting in his
regular pew at church when suddenly Satan appeared at
the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and
running out of every door of the church trying to get
away. James said soon everyone was out of the church
except for him and Satan. He just sat calmly in his pew
and just looked straight ahead. He said Satan walked
straight up to him and looked right at him and asked,
“James, don’t you know who I am?”
James replied calmly, “Yep, I sure do.”
“Aren’t you afraid of me?” asked Satan.
“Nope, sure ain’t.” James said.
“Don’t you realize I can kill you with
word?” Satan asked.
James answered, “Don’t doubt it for a minute.”
“Did you know that I could cause
horrifying physical agony for
eternity”? persisted Satan.
“Yep,” James said calmly.
“And you’re still not afraid?” asked Satan.
“Nope.”
James said that Satan really started getting
aggravated with him now.
Finally Satan asked James, “Well, why aren’t you afraid
of me?”
James said he told Satan, “Been married to
your sister for over 48 years!”
Our pretend senior “James” was telling us the other
morning that he didn’t like what the preacher said last
Sunday and that he was thinking of changing churches.
James said the preacher announced, “We have good
news and bad news this morning. The bad news is that
we need a new roof on the church but the good news is
that we have money to pay for it.”
James said he along with everyone in the church started
clapping and saying, “Amen, Amen!”
James then said the preacher responded, “The extra bad
news is that the money is still in your pockets!”

tlgmns That
Touch the Heart
I want to
walk as a
child of the
light
By Sam Eades, Publisher/Writer

The Times
There has never been a time in my life that I didn't sing
a hymn or two. Even when I was "out of Church" for a
little while (taking a break I guess) I always continued
to be reminded that the old hymns were important to
life. I would sing them almost daily.
I want to tell you a stoiy about a little old man that
attended one of the Churches I ministered in. This mans
name was, Clyde. You see Mr. Clyde didn't have much
money, and gave what he could to the Church. He was
always, what you might call, a happy, go lucky type
man.
Never had a complaint and love attending Church
every Sunday he was able. And loved to meet people.
This one Sunday, before Sunday School, Mr. Clyde
came up to me, decked out in his overall's and straw hat,
and asked if I would please lead the song," In my heart,
there rings a melody."
Of course my answer was, "yes, I sure will, and
Thanks for the suggestion." He then proceeded to ask
one more thing, "can I possibly sing the last verse, just
for today?
Well, I didn't know how he sounded, really didn't
know if he could sing or not, but I went ahead and
said, "sure, Mr. Clyde." He continued, "that was my
MawMaw's favorite
verse." The words went
like this; "‘Twill be my
endless theme in glory,
with the angels I will
sing, Twill be a song
with glorious harmony,
when the courts of
heaven ring."
Well, the service had
began and as normal
after the offertory prayer,
I asked eveiyone to stand
and sing, In my heart,
i i there rings a melody.
Elton M. Roth Eveiyone in the
congregation sang to the top of their lungs. And when
it came time for Mr. Clydes verse, it was like angels
came down from heaven. He stood in the middle of the
aisle and sang with the prettiest countiy voice I had
ever heard. ( I really don't think there was a diy eye
in the place). It was a heartfelt version of what he had
been taught as a child, by his Mother. It was as if, she
invaded his body for those few seconds and began to
sing.
I have experienced many things in my life and many
singers that I didn't really know, if they sang or not. But,
this was the most amazing thing I had ever heard.
He sang, "Twill be my endless theme in glory, with
the angels, I will sing. Twill be a song with glorious
harmony, when the courts of heaven ring." and then
proceeded to sing it again. It was beautiful The angels
did descend that day.
Later on in the week, while working in his garden, Mr.
Clyde died of a heart attack. He didn't have any family,
and no children to speak of. I remember the funeral,
where we sang his favorite verse of, In my hear, there
rings a melody, as he was lowered in the grave.
As I remember this stoiy, I thank God for Mr. Clyde.
He changed my life that day. He gave me a new hope
and faith in Jesus Christ. Thanks Mr. Clyde for your
love and for being a wonderful witness.
The words and tune of this hymn were in written in
1924 and are from the pen of Elton M Roth. He was
bom in Berne, Indiana in 189land died in Glendale,
California in 1951. Roth was one of the most well-
known musicians of his day and contributed over a
hundred hymns to the church.
According to Mr. Roth, this hymn came suddenly to
him while assisting with evangelism in Texas in 1923.
He recalled, “That evening I introduced the song by
having more than two hundred boys and girls sing it at
the open-air meeting, after which the audience joined in
the singing. I was thrilled as it seemed my whole being
was transformed into a song.”
And according to Mr. Clyde, his was too.
Please sing with me and Clyde,
I have a song that Jesus gave me
It was sent from heav’n above
There never was a sweeter melody
‘Tis a melody of love
In my heart there rings a melody
There rings a melody with heaven’s harmony
In my heart there rings a melody
There rings a melody of love
I love the Christ who died on Calv’ry
For He washed my sins away
He put within my heart a melody
And I know it’s there to stay
Twill be my endless theme in glory
With the angels I will sing
‘Twill be a song with glorious harmony
When the courts of heaven ring
There rings a melody of love
I love the Christ who died on Calv’ry
For He washed my sins away
He put within my heart a melody
And I know it’s there to stay
Twill be my endless theme in glory
With the angels I will sing
‘Twill be a song with glorious harmony
When the courts of heaven ring

current policies, procedures, and protocols. He is concerned about some city council members and current mayoral candidates'
record of not showing up to city council meetings or only having gone through one mandated training for all elected officials
new to public service. Shumake states, “the skill sets that I have gained while working in the private sector, I would continue
to use in the public sector to help usher in Millen into the new Millenium.” He also is college-educated, with earning degrees
in History, Human Resource Management, Divinity, and a doctoral degree in ministry.
With his college education and educational background, Shumake believes he is equipped with the skillsets to “effectively
research, plan, execute, and evaluate things I am working on has more than qualified me to sit at the hand of the city of Millen
and set sail to greatness.” He will be participating in the mayoral debate on October 5th and mentions to get out and vote on
Election Day, on November 7th.
