jenkinscountytimes.com The Jenkins County Times Wednesday, October 11, 2023 - Page 3 &3H By Kim Pace Hinely, First Congregational Church Sylvania, GA God Bless You I have been to several churches in my day, some I was invited to, some I rode to just take pictures and pray over that church. But the fondest memory was this past year when our church bought a church that Satan wanted to close. God saw otherwise. First Congregational Church of Sylvania is happening! So many times, in our walk we are faced with good and bad situations, those choices that we face on a daily basis. Our church is a beauty, one of the many churches we prayed over when we first started looking, we all knew what we wanted to happen, but we had no idea how the Lord would move. I am in such awe every Sunday to worship in God’s house with my church family. The good, the bad, the broken, the sick. We come as we are seeking God’s will for our lives and our children’s lives. I enjoy every Sunday. It has been such a humbling experience, how God is orchestrating every step. Thanks be to God! We are all needing something, we just don’t know what it is until we sit at the feet of Jesus. I will travel to many places and explore different seasons in my life, but the greatest blessing is knowing I do not walk alone that my Lord and Savior is by my side and holding my hand and telling me Kim, you got this, just have faith, and believe. There is so much happening in people’s lives today, I wish that people could understand this: God made everyone and if He loves them enough to create them. Why can’t you love them to? It takes a lot to be the better person and do right. I know when I worked at the cancer center I had a sign on the ceilings in my exam rooms that read “When you look up God is present.” “God bless you.” It always calmed the patient’s spirits, and later in my life thinking back to those moments the sign has calmed me. Finding a church isn’t hard, there is usually one on every street comer, every town. Love yourself enough to get involved in a church, love yourself enough to save your soul, and love yourself enough to bring others to church with you, because eternity is too long to be wrong. God bless you. McCormick wins fire department raffle Hunter McCormick won the raffle hosted by the Millen Fire Department. First Christian Church 306 Frontage Road East Sylvania, GA 30467 Words of Encouragement By Joshua Johnson, Special Contributor for The Times Pastor Oak Hill Baptist Church, Millen The Law of Reaping and Sowing Galatians 6:7-8 “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that -will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. ” There is a principle in scripture referred to as “the law of reaping and sowing,” which I first learned about as a young boy. In those days, I would often get caught red-handed and resort to lying instead of taking responsibility and telling the truth. My mom, however, would consistently remind me of three things: it’s easier to remember the truth than a lie, be sure your sins will find you out, and you reap what you sow. What does it mean to reap what you sow? To understand the concept of reaping what you sow, let me use a simple gardening illustration. Imagine going to a local garden store, purchasing a bag of squash seeds, taking them home, planting them in the ground, watering them, and waiting for them to grow. Eventually, you will harvest squash to eat. While there may be external factors, such as being an inexperienced gardener or deer consuming your crop, the absence of squash would not be due to the squash seeds failing to produce squash plants. No one plants squash seeds and expects to find watermelons. You know if you plant squash seeds, they will only produce squash. Galatians 6:7-8, the law of reaping and sowing, teaches us that we will one day harvest what we have planted. This means that the decisions we make today produce fruit. Poor decisions, poor fruit. Wise decisions, wise fruit. What kind of choices are you making? Do you accept responsibility and tell the truth, or do you tell lies and make excuses? Our daily choices not only have immediate and future consequences but also eternal consequences. We can sow to the flesh or sow to the Spirit. Sowing to the flesh is living a me-centered life - my wants, my desires, my dreams, what makes me feel good, what makes me happy. Sowing to the Spirit is surrendering to Jesus, dying to myself, and following Him - and then doing it again every day until we die. Sowing to the Spirit is a life lived not for self, but for Jesus. Did you know that your daily decisions have eternal consequences? Are you choosing to live for yourself, for “me”, or are you choosing to live for Jesus? r EXCIXING WORSHIP ^ Oak Hill Baptist Church 3233 Oak Hill Church Rd, Millen, GA 30442 Down load Oak 1-Hill C h u r c h APR Tod ay ! ^ Joshua Johnson, Senior Pastor Little Horse Creek Baptist Church to hold gospel concert Little Horse Creek cordially invites the public to a free gospel concert on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 at 7 p.m. featuring the Anthem Edition formerly The Old Paths.
