Camden man sentenced
to 100 years for sexual
exploitation of children
Michael Kersey of St.
Mary’s has been sentenced
to 100 years in federal
prison after pleading guilty
to sexually exploiting
multiple children. As
previously reported, the
Milwaukee FBI agents
infiltrated a private online
messaging group in which
members shared images
and videos of child sexual
abuse.
Covid fraudster
sentenced to prison
and ordered to pay
restitution
Bernard Okojie of
McDonough has been
sentenced to 64 months
in prison after being
convicted of conspiracy
to commit wire fraud
and money laundering.
Okojie used non-existent
companies to file at least 46
faudelent applications for
Economic Injury Disaster
Loans and PPP loans for
himself and others. Okojie
received nearly $2million
in funding directly.
Giuliani loses second
lawyer in Georgia
A second lawyer for Rudy
Giuliani is seeking to leave
his legal team in Georgia,
a move that would appear
to leave the fomier New
York City mayor without
any local layers in the state.
A motion to withdraw has
been submitted to the clerk.
A judge has to sign off on
the motion.
News comes on the heels
after it was revealed that
other attorneys have sued
Guiliani for failure to pay
his bills. Among them,
his long-time friend and
attorney Bob Costello, who
sued Guiliani
for over $ 1
million in
payments due
his firm.
Georgia man
arrested after
attacking
victims with
machete,
crowbar, and
box cutter
A Georgia
man has been
arrested over
the weekend
after deputies
in Thomas
County said he attached
multiple victims with a
variety of weapons.
On Sunday at 4:20 a.m.,
deputies responded to an
assault on Highway 319
North. A man identified
as Marcus Moss had
committed three different
assaults over several hours.
Deputies have not revealed
additional details about the
attacks or the identity of
the victims.
Elderly man dies while
nephew watches
A 70-year-old man has
died in front of his nephew
when a car hit him and
kept going in Alpharetta.
The driver remains at large.
Authorities say Joaquin
Vega was crossing the road
around 8:30 p.m. when he
was struck. His nephew,
who was across the street,
happened to look up just
as he was struck. Vega died
at the scene. His nephew
describes the vehicle as an
SUV. The crash is under
investigation.
Tybee Island City
Council member arrested
for DUI
Mike Hosti, a Tybee Island
Councilman was backing
out of a parking spot last
week in the Cockspur Bar
and Gril when he struck
a truck and attempted to
leave the scene. The driver
of the truck told police he
stopped Hosti and told
him to come back to the
lot. Authorities say the
councilman was exhibiting
signs of being under
the influence, including
stumbling and smelling of
alcohol.
He was transported to
the Tybee Island Police
Department where he was
booked and released after
surrendering his driver’s
license.
Savannah High student
shot while walking to
school
A Savannah High School
student was injured in a
shooting while walking
to school on Wednesday
morning last week. Police
say a group of people were
walking in the 2000 block
of Capital Street when the
shooting occurred. Police
say the shots were fired
from a gray Kia. No arrests
have been made. The
victim suffers with serious
but non-life threatening
injuries.

civility pledge
AGC Georgia Partners with local
companies to host skills challenge
for high school students

General Contractors of
Georgia (AGC Georgia)
is partnering with Ace
Electric, Inc.; Choate
Construction Company
and West Construction
Company to host
construction students
from high schools in 26
local counties for the
Southeast Georgia Skills
Challenge. The event
will be held on Thursday,
Nov. 2, beginning at 8:30
a.m. at Bulloch County
Agricultural Complex (44
Arena Boulevard).
This Skills Challenge
is one of eight regional
events held throughout
Georgia that will host over
2,300 students from nearly
100 schools. Competitions
held at the Southeast
Georgia Skills Challenge
are: Blueprint Reading,
Carpentry, Electrical,
Heavy Equipment
Operation, Masonry,
Plumbing, Roofing and
Welding.
“As one of the host
contractors, we are
proud to partner with the
local industry and AGC
Georgia to promote careers
in constmction while
developing our future
workforce,” said Matt
West, President of West
Construction Company.
With nearly 200 students
competing in the Southeast
Georgia Skills Challenge,
several hundred additional
students will observe
in hopes of competing
in the future. These
students will also benefit
from conversations with
construction
industry
professionals
who host
interactive
activities
for students
to become
more familiar
with specific
construction
trades.
“Skills Challenges allow
high school students
enrolled in construction
programs an opportunity
to showcase their trade
talents in a ‘game day’
atmosphere,” AGC Georgia
CEO Mike Dunham said.
“For some competitors, this
event is a ‘Friday Night
Lights’ experience with the
opportunity to receive job
offers from participating
industry representatives.
Each year, we are proud
to partner with amazing
member contracting firms
to showcase rewarding
construction career
opportunities to student
competitors and observers.”
Students from
construction programs in
the following counties are
invited to compete in the
Southeast Georgia Skills
Challenge: Appling, Bacon,
Brantley, Bryan, Bulloch,
Camden, Candler,
Chatham,
Effingham,
Emanuel, Evans,
Glynn, Jeff
Davis, Jenkins,
Liberty, Long,
McIntosh,
Montgomery,
Pierce, Screven,
Tattnall, Telfair,
Toombs, Treutlen, Wayne
and Wheeler.
Students who are
members of SkillsUSA
Georgia and compete
in carpentry, electrical,
masonry, plumbing and
welding at this event are
eligible to earn a bid to the
State Leadership and Skills
Competition (SLSC) that
will be held in February
2024.

The City of MiUen is accepting applications for the position of Utility Clerk.
Effective 9-25*2023
Applicant would be responsible for general duties included but not limited to:
receives and post utility payment, taxes, business license fees, establish new
customer accounts, answer telephone, schedule work orders for utility and
sanitation, and balance a cash drawer.
The applicant must have knowledge in bookkeeping practices, record keeping
systems, basic mathematical calculations, possess computer skills, and have skill
in written and oral communication.
Minimum qualification for the position: completion of high school or equivalent
and sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major
duties of the position. Benefits include employer paid health insurance and life

During the City Council
meeting held on October 3,
2023, one of the key topics
discussed was the Civility
Pledge initiative proposed
by the Georgia Municipal
Association (GMA). The
GMA initiative requested
cities to consider adopting
a Civility Pledge aimed at
promoting respectful and
civil discourse within the
community.
After deliberations and
discussions, the Millen
City Council made the
decision to adopt the
Civility Pledge for the
city. This move signifies
the city's commitment to
A RESOLUTION
PLEDGING TO PRACTICE AND PROMOTE CIVILITY IN THE CITY OF MILLEN
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Millen, the governing body of the City of Millen, Georgia (the
"Municipality"), recognizes that robust debate and the right to self-expression, as protected by the First
Amendment to the United States Constitution, are fundamental rights and essential components of
democratic self-governance; and
WHEREAS, the City Council further recognizes that the public exchange of diverse ideas and viewpoints is
necessary to the health of the community and the quality of governance in the Municipality; and
WHEREAS, the members of City Council, as elected representatives of the community and stewards of the
public trust, recognize their special role in modeling open, free and vigorous debate while maintaining the
highest standards of civility, honesty and mutual respect; and
WHEREAS, City Council meetings are open to the public and thus how City officials execute their legal
duties is on public display; and
WHEREAS, civility by City officials in the execution of their legislative duties and responsibilities fosters
respect, kindness and thoughtfulness between City officials, avoiding personal ill will which results in
actions being directed to issues made in the best interests of residents; and
WHEREAS, civility between City officials presents an opportunity to set a positive example of conduct and
promotes thoughtful debate and discussion of legislative issues, resulting in better public policy and a
more informed electorate while also encouraging civil behavior between residents; and
WHEREAS, civility between City officials is possible if each member of the elected body remembers that
they represent not only themselves, but the constituents of their district and city; and
WHEREAS, in order to publicly declare its commitment to civil discourse and to express its concern for the
common good and well-being of all of its residents, the City Council has determined to adopt this
resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION ONE
The City of Millen pledges to practice and promote civility within the governing body as a means of
conducting legislative duties and responsibilities.
SECTION TWO
The elected officials of the City Council enact this civility pledge to build a stronger and more prosperous
community by advocating for civil engagement, respecting others and their viewpoints, and finding
solutions for the betterment of the City of Millen.
SECTION THREE
This pledge strives to ensure that all communication be open, honest, and transparent as this is vital for
cultivating trust and relationships.

This pledge strives to ensure mutual respect to achieve municipal goals, recognizing that patience,
tolerance and civility are imperative to success and demonstrates the Council's commitment to respect
different opinions, by inviting and considering different perspectives, allowing space for ideas to be
expressed, debated, opposed, and clarified in a constructive manner.
SECTION SIX
This pledge demonstrates our commitment against violence and incivility in all their forms whenever and
wherever they occur in all our meetings and interactions.
SECTION SEVEN
The City of Millen expects members of the public to be civil in its discussion of matters under consideration
by and before the City Council, with elected officials, staff, and each other.
