Capture the Beauty of
Ogeechee Watershed:
Ogeechee Riverkeeper’s
Annual Photo Contest
Opens for Submissions
The Ogeechee Riverkeeper (ORK)
invites photographers, amateur and
professional alike, to showcase their
skills and capture the breathtaking
beauty of the Ogeechee and Canoochee
Rivers and their surrounding areas. With
an expanse of 5,500 square miles, the
watershed offers a unique opportunity for
photographers to document the diverse
ecological features, the vibrant wildlife,
and the lush plant life that call this region
home.
The Ogeechee watershed boasts a
remarkable habitat, hosting more than
160 rare species of plants and animals.
Whether it's the sweeping landscapes,
the intimate portraits of nature, the
wildlife that roams the riverbanks, or
the submerged wonders beneath the
water's surface, this contest encourages
photographers to bring forth the
exceptional essence of this ecologically
rich area.
Photographers are invited to participate
in multiple categories, including
Landscape, Portrait, Wildlife, Plant Life,
Underwater, Aerial, Black and White,
and even a category for "Funny Wildlife."
This diverse range of categories allows
artists to explore various facets of the
watershed's beauty and ecological
significance.
The rules for the contest stipulate that
all entries must be photographs taken
within the same calendar year as the
contest. As the competition is an annual
event, this ensures that the submitted
images remain current, highlighting the
ever-changing landscapes and life within
the watershed.
ORK is enthusiastic about the potential
of the contest, with a strong desire to
receive entries from all 21 counties
that encompass the Ogeechee River
watershed. By encouraging participation
from photographers residing across
the entire region, the contest aims to
showcase the stunning biodiversity and
natural wonders found throughout the
watershed.
Judges for the contest will be looking
for photographs that not only exhibit
technical excellence but also convey the
essence of what makes the Ogeechee and
Canoochee Rivers and their surroundings
remarkable. These images will serve as a
testament to the ecological significance
of the area, emphasizing the importance
of its protection and preservation.
Winners of the Ogeechee Riverkeeper's
Annual Photo Contest will receive
recognition for their outstanding
contributions to capturing the natural
beauty and diversity of this region. In
addition, the selected images may be
featured in publications and exhibitions
to raise awareness about the importance
of safeguarding this valuable natural
resource.

Football Regional Report
The high school football season is down to the final three weeks of the season. After a
much-anticipated season, teams are now getting into the final games and looking to secure
a top seed for state playoffs. Currently, in Region 3, it appears the battle for the regional
championship will come down to Jenkins County and Portal. That game will not be played
until the final game of the season. Much can still happen in the final three weeks.
Portal hosted ECI on Friday night. The Panthers jumped out early on ECI and never
looked back. Leading 27-0 at the end of the first half. Portal ended the game completely
shutting out ECI and won 40-0. Elijah Coleman finished with more than 200 all-purpose
yards. With that win over ECI, Portal has outscored their regional opponents 91-23.
In other news from around Region 3, Montgomery County finished 0-8 after a loss this
week to McIntosh County Academy. After being ran over by the War Eagles, MCA got
revenge on Montgomery by winning 46-14.
This week, games across the region will be Jenkins County traveling to Montgomery
County and ECI playing host to McIntosh County Academy.
The Georgia High School Football Daily Top 10 has changed very little in the past week.
Jenkins County remains the only team from Region 3 in the rankings and presently they
are ranked 7th .
The War Eagles have consistently stayed in that spot for the last 3 weeks.
In other high school football news around the state, former Jenkins County alumni Jed
Hodges who is the Special Teams Coordinator/co-defensive coordinator for Mill Creek
High School in Atlanta had a big victory on Friday night. The game, which was broadcast
on ESPN2, saw Mill Creek defeat Buford High School 31-24. Both teams were nationally
ranked entering the game, with Buford High School being ranked fifth and Mill Creek 25
th . The win for Mill Creek was an upset!

Pigskin Pick’em
32” TV in Prize Package
There are only 6 weeks left in the college football season. At the end of those 6 weeks,
conference championships and bowl games will take place. With the season coming down to the
last six weeks, that means we only have six more chances to win at Pigskin Pick’em!
The Week 7 winner of the Pigskin Pick’em was Justin Gray! Justin picked everyone correctly
and it came to a tie-breaker and he was the closest. Congrats Justin on the win again this week!
The Week 8 Tiebreaker is: Guess the TOTAL # of passing yards Alabama will have against
Tennessee.
