Cross country, often abbreviated as
XC running, is a unique and challenging
form of distance running. It differs
significantly from traditional track
and field events as it takes place on a
diverse range of terrains, providing a
rigorous test of endurance, strategy, and
mental toughness. Cross country races
vary in length, with common distances
being 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) for high
school. These meets include both team
and individual competitions. In team
races, scores are calculated based on
the finishing positions of a team's top
runners. The team with the lowest
cumulative score wins. Simultaneously,
runners compete individually for
personal records and rankings.

Regional Report:
Football and Softball
Softball has now moved onto the final eight teams. The GHSA State Softball Playoffs is
held once again this year in Columbus, GA. From Region 3 only ECI will be in the final
eight teams. They will begin on Monday and they will play Georgia Military. ECI will look
to win back to back championships.
With only two games left on the football schedule for all the teams in Region 3 except
Montgomery County who has one remaining, the playoff picture is starting to take shape.
Presently, the top four teams in every region will be in the GHSA State Playoffs. Both Jenkins
County and Portal have guaranteed their spot in the playoffs, while the other two in Region
3 is yet to be decided. Most likely, with ECI the only team remaining on Montgomery’s
schedule, all teams but Montgomery will be in the playoffs this season.
Very little change took place in the Class A Division 2 Football rankings. The War Eagles
remained ranked 7 th . The only change in the polls took place in the 8-10 spots. Aquinas to
10 th , Telfair and Early County moved up one spot. The Georgia Public Broadcasting Poll
keeps the War Eagles ranked 2 nd in the state! The Composite Poll, which combines all the
polls through the state has not been finalized yet this week. As of press time, the War Eagles
had moved into a tie for 6th place.
