Governor announces September revenue
down 3.2%
Governor Kemp announced last week that
tax collections during the month of September
totaled nearly $3.3billion, for an increase of
$199.1 million or 6.4% compared to September
2022, when net tax collections totaled almost
$3.1billion for the month. $199.9 million of
September’s tax revenue changes were the
result of the reinstatement of the Motor Fuel
Excise Tax.
Macon asking for public assistance in
locating escapees
Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding four inmates
that escaped from the Detention Center last week on Oct. 16. The inmates escaped from
a damaged day room window and a cut fence, after a blue dodge charger pulled up to
the location and helped the inmates flee at 3 a.m. that Monday morning. The inmates are
identified as Joey Fournier, Mark Kerry Anderson, Johnifer Demard Barnwell and Chavis
Demaryo.

US Dept, of Justice announces grants more than $1.2 million in the southern district
of Georgia
The Southern District has announced more than $1.2 million in grants awarded to agencies
and entities to support law enforcement and public safety initiatives. These grants include
funding for the Project Safe neighborhoods, and Office on Violence against women.
Additional grants awarded included the Waycross Area Shelter for Abused Persons, East
Georgia State College, City of Savannah, Glynn County, City of Waycross, and Liberty
County.
Georgia Department of Education donates $200k to arts in rural schools
The Georgia Department of Education has awarded $200k to rural school districts to help
them expand the fine arts opportunities to students, this is the sixth round of such funding.
Thirteen rural schools are receiving start grants, which can be used to create or expand arts
initiatives that improve student’s access to the arts.
Georgia governor buys $10m in Israeli bonds to support defense efforts
Gov. Kemp has instructed the State Treasurer to buy $10million in bonds from Israel
to supports its defense efforts against the militant Hamas regime. The $10 million was
the highest available on the market and brings Georgia’s current investment in Israel via
bonds to $25million. Since Kemp has taken office, Georgia has purchased and aggregate of
$50million in bonds with half of them now matured.
GBI director appointed to special commission
Governor Kemp has appointed GBI director Chris Hosey as Co-Chair of the Georgians
for Refuge, Action, Compassion, and Education (GRACE) Commission, and U.S. Attorney
for the Northern District of Georgia Ryan Buchanan as a member.
Walmart Dairy facility opens in Valdosta
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced this week that Walmart will establish a new
food processing facility in Valdosta. The dairy facility will create more than 400 new jobs
and $350million in investment in Lowndes County. The Valdosta dairy facility will provide
high-quality milk throughout Georgia and neighboring states, serving more than 750
Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs in the region.

Employment Available
The Jenkins County Board of Commissioners is
seeking to fill the position of Appraisal Clerk in the
Tax Assessor’s Office. This position is responsible for
performing clerical and data-entry work, maintaining
the County’s real property records, and providing
assistance to citizens regarding the County’s appraisal
system.
Essential Duties for this position include but not limited
to:
Receiving and updating information on real property
records
Receiving and forwarding applications, tax returns,
citizen complaints and other materials to appropriate
staff
Processing property appraisal revisions for the County
Tax Digest
Recording transactions and data into County records
Assisting in the printing, sorting, and mailing of various
tax documents
Preforming routine clerical duties such as ordering
supplies, filing, mailing, and preparing correspondence
for the Chief Appraiser
Efficiently operating essential office equipment
Picking up the mail from the post office daily
Answering phones and greeting visitors with a friendly
and helpful attitude
Qualifications for this position include:
High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by six
months prior experience in clerical work
Knowledge of:
General office procedures
Interpersonal communication skills
Microsoft Office- Word & Excel
Any combination of education and experience which
results in the requisite skill for this position
Applicant must be willing to obtain a Level One
Appraiser status within the first year of employment
and complete ongoing continuing education training as
provided by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
Applications may be picked up from the Tax Assessors
office and should be submitted to Vicky Patrick, Chief
Appraiser, at the Jenkins County Courthouse at 611 East
Winthrope Ave in Millen. Applications must be received
by Wednesday, November 1, 2023 to be considered for
this position.
