Well, our senior “James” has been
at it again...
“James” told us he had been to Wal-Mart this past
weekend to buy a large bag of Purina dog food for his
loyal pet, Gunner the Wonder Dog, which weighs 191
lbs. “James” said he was in the check-out line when
a woman behind him asked if he had a dog. What did
she think, I had an elephant? “James” said that since
he had retired, he hadn’t done too much except come
to the Senior Center everyday so he said he thought he
might just have a little bit of fun. So “James” replied
to the lady that he was starting the Purina Dog Food
Diet again. He said that he probably shouldn’t because
he ended up in the hospital the last time, but that he
had lost 50 pounds.” James” told the lady that when
he woke up, he was in the intensive care ward, and
he had tubes coming out of him and IVs in both arms.
Even though he had to go through that, “James” said
that it was essentially a perfect diet and the way that
it works is to load your pockets with Purina dog food
nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you
feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete, so it
works well, and he was going to try it again.
Horrified, the lady asked “James” that when he
ended up in the intensive care ward was it because
the dog food had poisoned him? “James” replied to
her that it wasn’t the dog food that put him in the
intensive care ward but that when he had stopped to
pee on a fire hydrant he got hit by a car!
“James” seems to have been a teaser his whole life.
When “James” was in middle school, his science
teacher was conducting an experiment one day. The
teacher took a frog and placed it in a container and
said “jump”. The frog jumps. Then he cuts his front
leg off and again shouts “jump”. The teacher does it
two more times and every time the frog jumps when
the teacher says to. Finally, the teacher cuts the frog’s
last leg off and again shouts “jump”. The frog didn’t
move. Then the teacher faced the class and asked the
students if they understood this experiment. “James”
stood up and said “Sir, when we cut all four legs off of
a frog it becomes deaf!”

that the other men had been holding. I was able to tie
them around me into an emergency harness of sorts."
"It wasn't me holding the ropes sir," he told the reporter,
"it was the ropes that were holding me."
So often we are faced with difficult situations in
life. Sometimes it can feel that we have lost it all, like
the man with the photo, or that calamity has swept
us away, like the man with the hot air balloon. We
are sometimes called in to face these extraordinary
circumstances with great strength and resolve. I am
thankful that in these times of uncertainty and fear
that we have something that will always help to see us
through. We can hold tight to the promises written in
God's word, like the man held the picture of his son so
dear. We can hide that word in our hearts and access
its tmth anytime we are in need. We too can tmst, like
the man who tied the ropes around himself that day.
God will hold on to us when we are too weak to hold
ourselves.
Tmst in God has never failed me and it has truly
seen me through the storms of life. Look for your own
answers in Him and there you will find safety and
peace. Come and follow Jesus, you'll never be sorry
that you did.
