gives the House two legislative days to consider the measure on the House floor.

Lt. Governor wants GA teachers to be paid $10k a year to carry guns at school
Georgia’s lieutenant governor said last week that he wants to pay teachers $10k a year to
encourage them to carry guns in school. Republican Lt. Gov. Burt Jones said he wants the
state to spend more money on school safety, including paying for teachers and other non-
officers to take firearms training, and paying teachers an annual stipend.
The GAAssociation of Educators opposes anyone besides certified officers carrying guns
in schools. The group has suggested Jones write more legislation to hire more counselors.
The group said, “having more guns in schools doesn’t solve the problem of violence in our
schools.”
Kemp responds to State Supreme Court’s decision on abortion law
Gov. Kemp has praised the higher court for ruling that the abortion law in Georgia would
stand. Last November, a lower court ruled the law was invalid. Georgia’s law bans most
abortions after six weeks. However, Democrats are calling on the governor to repeal the
abortion ban, saying it strips women of the autonomy and worsens the state’s women’s
health crisis.
More than half of Georgia counties have no OB/GYN and Georgia has one of the worst
maternal mortality rates in the county. The mling doesn’t change abortion access in Georgia
and is not the last word on the state ban.
