It's that time of season to
visit the Ogeechee River
There's an old saying: "A bad day of
fishing is still better than a good day at the
office."
And that is so very true!
If you’re looking to get outdoors and
toss a line, Midville or Rock Ford and the
surrounding areas on the Ogeechee offers
no shortage of great places to play hooky.
Whether you enjoy chasing your catch by
boat or want to pull out a chair on a dock
and take in the view, there are plenty of fun
and scenic places throughout the river areas
to satisfy any fishing bug.
Just about any time of year, grouper and
snapper are up for grabs in the coastal
waters where the river feeds. While other
fish such as bass, catfish, crappie, mackerel,
flounder, redfish, and trout can be caught
seaonally as they move through the river to
the larger waters.
I don't know about you, but as this cooler
weather comes along, I just enjoy a trip
down the river in my little boat to just plain
enjoy the scenery and the turning of the
leaves. Of course, if I see something big
swimming around, I always have my trust
worthy pole with me along with some bait.
However, even though the water is low
at points in the Ogeechee, remember to
always have your fishing license with you.
I have seen several boaters being checked
lately. You do not want that ticket this time
of year.
One particular place I enjoy going to just
"get away" overlooks the Ogeechee River
and we call it. The Historic Fort McAllister
in Richmond Hill Georgia.
It offers more than its Civil War museum
and earthwork fortifications. It also features
two great fishing spots, one open to the
public, another reserved just for campers at
the state park. The park's pier is more than
150 feet long overlooking the river, with
picnic pavilions, a playground for the kids,
and even a boat ramp nearby for you to put
in your boat.
It is that time of year guys to "get away"
from the hustle of a busy season and just go
boating and fishing. Don't be a recliner man,
be a fishing man, and enjoy the weather.
Happy Trails to you all!
