Annual Ogeechee River Best
Photograph Contest happening now
The Ogeechee River keeper is in the process of hosting their annual photography
contest of pictures from the Ogeechee River. The photographs will be taken and
received from a 5,500 square mile watershed. The main reason for the contest is
that the Ogeechee is an important habitat for more than 160 rare species of plants
and animals, not to mention a grand variety of fish. Photographers were allowed
to enter in mulitiple categories. Landscape, portrait, wildlife, plant life, underwater,
aerial, black and white and tmy favorite, funny wildlife.
Meaghan Walsh Gerard, communications director states that "the variety of
subjects has been inspiring every year and we have been thrilled with the past
entries."
Judges are looking for images that highlight what makes the Ogeechee River, and
the surrounding areas, remarkable. This is the fourth year for the contest.
The riverkeeper has seen entries from across the 21 counties encompassing the
watershed.
Gerard also notes that this will be the first year the Ogeechee River Keepers
have sponsorships. “As always, winners will receive a household membership and
Ogeechee merchandise, but we had other businesses partner with us, so we can
offer even more prizes.”
All submissions were due by November 6, 2023. Winners receive a free
membership to the organization and Ogeechee merchandise.
However, winners will be announced early December 2023. Complete rules and
submission guidelines at: ogeecheeriverkeeper.org/annual-photography-contest.
Now, since we love the Ogeechee and have several columns about the Ogeechee,
not to mention our podcast, "Voice of Ogeechee", The Jenkins County Times is going
to be sponsoring it's own Ogeechee Photograph Contest this year. Same categories
as above. Our deadline is December 15 th and the winners will be announced on
December 27th in the paper.
So, everyone get out your camera's and start taking photos on the river. Our area
has a wide variety of wonderful spots to take pictures. Remember, you can take
color or black and white photos.
This is a really good chance for someone from Jenkins County to be a winner!
One photograph will be chosen from each catergory that enters and each winner
will receive a six month subscription to The Jenkms County Times along with two
free tickets to see the production of "The Help" when presented at the Historic Pal
Theatre in 2024 along with their picture featured in The Jenkins County Times and
will be interviewed by our publisher on The Voice of Ogeechee Pod Cast.
Please send all photos to: Uncle Rogers Ogeechee
Attn: thejenkinscountytimes@gmail.com along with your name, address, date of
picture, area picture was taken along with your phone number for any questions
we may have.
Good luck everyone.

Having worked with The Home
Place Adult Daycare Center for
several years, we kicked off the
holiday season by enjoying a craft
project with their clients.
Club members supplied
pumpkins, craft paint, paint
saucers, brushes, sponges, plastic
table covers, and paper towels
and assisted the twelve clients
with painting pumpkins. Each
client was supplied with a saucer
of their choice of paint colors and
a live pumpkin. After completing
their first pumpkin to their
satisfaction, they were offered a
second and many of them enjoyed
painting two! Each pumpkin had
the client’s name printed on them
so they could show them off to
visitors. Pictured are Melanie Clark, Kathy Gay, Vanessa
As the pumpkins age, they will Reeves, Arie Hogan. Photo contributed,
be opened and placed outside near
the tree line as a treat for the wildlife. Clients reported seeing deer, racoons, and rabbits in the
yard and forest behind the center.
Our paint party was done as part of Garden Club of Georgia’s Garden Therapy Project
which encourages hands-on activities for clients at the hospital/nursing home/senior centers.
