Exciting developments
are on the horizon for
employees enrolled in
Hadden Insurance, as the
Board of Education (BOE)
approved a comprehensive
benefits upgrade during
this month’s meeting. The
unanimous decision marks
a significant enhancement
to the existing benefit
packages, demonstrating
the BOE's commitment to
the well-being of its staff.
Starting in January,
Hadden Insurance
beneficiaries can anticipate
substantial improvements
across key areas of
coverage.
1. Life Insurance Boost:
• Current Coverage:
Employees currently
enjoy $10,000 in paid life
insurance.
• Upcoming
Change: In a generous
move, the BOE has
approved an increase
that will see the paid life
insurance amount soar
to $50,000, providing
enhanced financial security
for all insured individuals.
2. Dental Insurance
Overhaul:
• Current Coverage:
The BOE covers the
employee portion of dental
insurance, an approximate
value of $31.
• Upcoming
Change: The board's
decision extends this
coverage even further. For
those opting for family
coverage plans or higher
options, employees will
only be responsible for
the incremental difference
each month, substantially
reducing the financial
burden on those choosing
extended coverage.
3. Vision Insurance
Advancements:
• Current Coverage:
The BOE currently covers
the employee portion of
vision insurance.
• Upcoming
Change: Similar to the
dental insurance update,
employees opting for
family plans will only
be required to cover the
additional cost, making
comprehensive vision
coverage more accessible
for those with larger
families.
These enhancements
come as part of the annual
benefits enrollment
process, with employees
scheduled to sign up
through Hadden Insurance
in December. “The
BOE's decision reflects
a proactive approach to
prioritizing the health and
well-being of its workforce,
recognizing the importance
of comprehensive benefits
in fostering a thriving and
satisfied team,” Dr. J.P.
Hearn explained to The
Times.
County Commission
Approves Initiatives for
Community Improvement
By Sam Eades, Publisher

The Times
During the November
Jenkins County
Commissioner Meeting,
residents voiced their
concerns and county
officials addressed key
issues affecting the
community. The public
comment section saw
a taxpayer expressing
worries about the city's
financial shortfall of
$100,000, allegedly
attributed to changes
in waste management.
However, Hiller Spann
clarified that the county was
not to blame for the deficit,
debunking statements
made during the Mayoral
Debate. Spann also
expressed disappointment
at derogatory comments
made about the county
during the debate and
affirmed that Jenkins
County is not the poorest
in Georgia.
Tax Commissioner
Tina Burke presented
plans for a remodel of her
office, including a request
for a new department
employee. The estimated
costs covered construction
and wall movement, but
further estimates for
new desk computers and
related items are pending.
Burke also shared an
Insolvent List, aiming to
clear properties that have
lingered on the books due
to missing deeds or issues
hindering their sale.
Citizen Alvin Williams
raised concerns about a
dumpster site at the comer
of Aaron and Wrens Roads,
citing issues with dead
animals, furniture, and
trash accumulating in
the area. Commissioners
acknowledged the problem,
considering relocating
the dumpsters away from
residential areas.
Ben Wall, owner of
Atlantic Waste addressed
complaints about a
pervasive odor emanating
from the landfill. A new
site manager, Bonner
Jones, has been hired to
rectify operational issues,
including the termination
of employees who were not
fulfilling their duties.
The commission also
voted to issue All Star

For the holidays,
visit our own Museum
I bet some of you did not know that
there is a Museum in Jenkins County,
located in the heart of downtown, Millen. If you have not
been to visit, I urge you to take time to go by the Chamber
of Commerce and request a visit of this great landmark of
Millen, Ga. The Museum is located inside one of Millen’s
two train depots and is a free museum that curates local
histories. Native American Indian artifacts, tools, and
cotton mill equipment.
This historic Museum is more than just a building. It
features some great items from the past and what Millen,
Georgia was made of, as they say, back in the day.
From pictures of some of the older citizens of Millen,
and one complete floor of great antiques including an old
printing press.
The Museum has been in town for quite some time, and
it is known as the best Museum this side of Augusta. It's
loaded with the rich history of Millen and the prominant
families that lived here and made Jenkins County what it
is today.
If you ever stop by and no one is there, please stop in the
Jenkins County Chamber office and they will be glad to
show you around. Please tell them, Sam sent you!
The Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-
Friday, and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
and Happy trails to you,
Sam
