Drone used to drop drugs into Washington
State Prison
Two men are behind bars in Washington
County accused of dropping contraband into
the prison using a drone. Jonquez Johnson
and Travis Calloway were arrested and had
outstanding warrants in Richmond County.
The accused led officers on a high-speed chase
into Jefferson County until officers used a PIT
maneuver. The vehicle ended up in a ditch.
Investigators found contraband and the drone
in the vehicle.
Pedestrian killed in Augusta
The Richmond County coroner is investigating
the death of a pedestrian in Augusta that
occurred over the weekend. The identity has
not yet been released but the victim was struck in the southbound lane of Phinizy Road in
South Augusta by a southbound vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Multiple defendants prosecuted on federal firearms and drug charges
Five people have been indicted in the Southern District of Georgia on felony charges
including illegal firearms possession and drug distribution. The case was part of Project
Safe Neighborhood in collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
Tacumsa Lovett of Grovetown; Zanuck Berry of Martinez; Jeremy Studdard of Dublin;
Robert Green of Savannah; and Matthew lacey of Savannah were indicted during the
November temi of the grand jury.
Savannah man indicted on multiple child sexual exploitation charges
Sheldon Burch of Savannah is being held in the Chatham County Detention center following
his arrest on a criminal complaint and has now been indicted on three counts of production
of child pornography and one count each of receipt of child pornography and possession of
child pornography. The sentence is a mandatory 15 years in prison.
The indictment alleges that Burch, from June 2006 - 2016 produced sexually explicit
images of three minor victims. And up until June 2023 received and possessed additional
images of child sexual exploitation. Investigators found the images on several devices in
Burch’s home.
Winners of the 4th annual Georgia RISE award announced
Governor Kemp has announced the winners of the Recognizing Inspirational School
Employees (RISE) award, which honors those who provide exemplary service in public
education.
Mr. Bruce Ballard, construction and facilities director for the Griffin-Spalding County
School System and Gina Whitacker, administrative assistant for the Baldwin County School
District are this year’s winners.
All schools and districts were invited to submit a nominee for the award and a panel of
judges determined the finalists. The Governor determined the winner.
Baby Jane Doe identified after 35 years
The body of a three-year-old girl found in a baby blanket, placed in a gym bag inside
a cement filled suitcase hidden inside a tv console cabinet in 1988 has been identified.
Authorities also made an arrest in the case. GBI has identified the little girl as Kenyatta
Odum and the child’s mother, Evelyn Odom and her stepfather, Ulysses Sanders, have been
indicted on charges of felony murder and concealing a death. Odom and Sanders put the
child into hot water, seriously disfiguring her legs and feet, which caused her death. Then
they covered up her death by dumping her body in a TV console two hours away from their
home in Albany.
Trump gets good news in Georgia case
The former president has received good news in the 2020 election case in Fulton County
as a co-defendant announced recently that he would not take a plea deal. Rev. Stephen Lee
announced that he has no plans to take a plea deal brought by Fulton County.
Tramp and 17 other defendants have been indicted on alleged attempts to overturn the 2020
election as well as violating the state’s Racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations act.
