The best pumpkin pieA

So, as we were preparing for the feast for three, I packed
a full dinner plus leftovers for a dear longtime friend who,
like so many of us, was away from family this Thanksgiving.
She had asked if she could bake a pumpkin pie for
us, knowing it is my husband’s favorite, but I declined,
explaining we had just finished one for his birthday and I already had a buttermilk pie for dessert.
Returning from delivering turkey and sides (along with buttermilk pie), Larry, when he came
home, said that our friend had given us a homemade pumpkin pie—and handed me a bag with
everything needed to bake one!
I have laughed every time I've walked through the kitchen and seen, again, the cans of pumpkin
and evaporated milk! I'm chuckling even now.
There is no doubt that this is the pumpkin pie we will not forget, the one we will remember and
talk about on Thanksgiving for years to come!
Often, God gives us the ingredients for all good things, he equips us with the tools and skills
we need. It's up to us to use his gifts for what we need or have asked. He doesn't just say, "Here
you go!"
Instead, he allows us to exercise our free will, to make the best and the most of everything he
so abundantly showers upon us. His answers to our prayers just might be the opportunity to grab
onto his gifts for the betterment not only of ourselves, but our neighbors and perhaps all mankind.
Tonight, I give thanks for this homemade pumpkin pie, for the realization that God always,
always provides for us—even if we don't always realize it.
The Best.
