CAFE ON COTTON
Cafe on Cotton resturant is in the
building that was originally known as
Maxwell’s dry goods store. Ladson
Investments constructed the building in
1950 and leased it to Mr. Lipsitz, who
owned a chain of Maxwell stores in the area. Maxwell's
was a upcoming clothing store that would do hemming
and would measure you for pants and coats. Boy, has this
tradtion gone! Also, Ruth Warren managed Maxwell’s for
many years.
Now, Ed Wilson, a long time resident of Jenkins County,
began working for Maxwell’s in 1960 when he was 16. He
would spend much of his career working in this store. He
eventually went into business for himself, and opened "
Ed’s of Millen". When Hodges Department Store closed.
When Maxwell’s closed, Wilson moved his own business
there. Ed did a great business, just like Maxwell's did. Sadly,
Ed’s of Millen closed in 1994. Since then the building
has been a fitness center located there and now a great
restaurant, known as Cafe' on Cotton which is owned by
Amber Cates. I have to say, they have the very best buffet
anywhere around! If you have never been, give it a try. You
will be glad you did.
See you next week!

Million dollar spaghetti is the perfect combination
of noodles, lean ground beef sauce, cottage cheese,
cream cheese, and sour cream. It's unbelievably good!
Serve with garlic bread and salad.
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 50 mins
Total Time: 1 hr
Servings: 8
INGREDIENTS:
Spaghetti:
An 8-ounce package of spaghetti should make about
eight servings.
Beef:
You’ll need a pound of lean ground beef. You can use
a mix of ground beef and ground turkey, if you prefer.
Spaghetti sauce:
Use a jar of store-bought spaghetti sauce or make
your own marinara sauce at home.
Butter:
Use a stick of sliced butter to prepare the pan and to
add richness and flavor to the baked spaghetti.
Cottage cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream:
A mixture of cottage cheese, cream cheese, and sour
cream is essential for this decadent, creamy spaghetti
sauce.
Cheese:
Shredded Cheddar cheese is the perfect finishing
touch for this million dollar spaghetti.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Boil the spaghetti in salted water, then drain and set
aside.
Cook the beef on the stove and discard the grease.
Transfer to a bowl and mix in the spaghetti sauce.
Prepare the baking dish, then spread half of the
noodles in the bottom.
Top with the mixture of cottage cheese, cream cheese,
and sour cream.
Cover with remaining spaghetti and butter.
Pour the beef mixture over the spaghetti and spread in
an even layer.
Bake for 30 minutes, top with Cheese, and continue
baking until the cheese is melted.

OAK HILL BAPTIST CHURCH
by Edgar Allan Poe
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now.
Thus much let me avow —
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have
been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown
away
In a night, or in a day.
In a vision, or in none.
Is it therefore the less
gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a
dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented
shore.
And I hold within my
hand
Grains of the golden
sand —
How few! yet how they
creep
Through my fingers to the deep.
While I weep — while I weep!
O God! Can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

A Resolution
Whereas the Boston Tea Party is a seminal event in the
history of the founding of these United States of America,
and
Whereas the nature of this event enacted by American
Colonists, generally known as the "Sons of Liberty", was
in defiance of the tax on tea which was seen unlawful as
“taxation without representation," and
Whereas it is with the spirit and mission of the Compatriots
of our great organization to join with our patriotic brothers
and sisters in a ceremonial act of independence, and
Whereas, thanks to the sacrifices of our patriot ancestors,
we have the liberty to join with others in the ceremonial
“Destruction of Tea” as a sign of solidarity with those patriot
ancestors.
I, John Dodd, President General of the Sons of the American
Revolution do Proclaim Saturday, December 16, 2023, the
250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, as a time of
celebration for every patriotic American, and encourage
every patriot to assemble with other patriots and at 8:00
PM Boston time join in unison to “destroy tea” as our
Patriot Ancestors did 250 years before, be that by imbibing,
sharing, or tossing of tea, as the case may be, and general
merrymaking.
(And be sure to check out or Boston Tea Party “merch” at
the SAR store!)
Under my seal as President General, I proclaim this on
November 27, 2023, in Louisville, Kentucky, Headquarters
of the Sons of the American Revolution.
