far
The Times
Oak Hill Church celebrated the spirit of giving on
Saturday, December 9, by hosting their third annual gift
card giveaway at 11 a.m. The event, organized by Rose
Small, program director and dedicated Oak Hill church
member, garnered an enthusiastic response from the
community.
"We are thrilled at the response from the community,"
said Small. The highlight of the event was a live drawing
for $50 gift certificates, providing an opportunity for
attendees to experience both the joy of receiving and
the anticipation of the raffle. Pastor Johnson also shared
moments of inspiration during the event, fostering a
sense of community and togetherness.
This year, Oak Hill Church went above and beyond, generously giving away a total of 72 gift certificates. “The initiative,
part of the church's broader commitment to community engagement, aims to spread holiday cheer and make a positive
impact on the lives of local residents,” explained Small.
Stephanie Brady, Bailee Small, Karlee Small, and Selina Johnson, captured in a photo by Lauren Johnson, exemplify
the warmth and joy that emanated from the event. Their smiles reflect the spirit of generosity and community connection
fostered by Oak Hill Church.
This gift card giveaway is just one of many activities organized by Oak Hill Church to contribute to the well-being of
the community. For those seeking more information or interested in getting involved, the church office can be contacted at

THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY
What can I say, as a child I found the song,”The Little
Drummer Boy” was always very fascinating to me. I
always wondered if the song was scripturally based or not.
I did find out it was not. However, that does not make the
song any less important.
One year when I was around eight of nine, I played the
part of the Drummer Boy in our children’s Nativity in my
childhood Church. Before any of us were allowed to play
a certain part, our leader would give us the history behind
the part we were playing. Actually, it was nice knowing
what the history was about on this little drummer boy.
Before it became world famous as the "Little Drummer
Boy," the song was originally
titled "Carol of the Drums"
because of the repeating
line "pa rum pum pum pum,"
which imitates the sound of
a drum.
It's not certain who wrote
the song, but the "Little
Drummer Boy" is believed
to have been written by
Katherine K. Davis in 1941.
The song lyrics are said to be
based on an old Czech carol.
The song was recorded by
the Trapp Family Singers in
1951 under the title of “Carol
of the Drums.” And, yes, this
is the same Trapp family that
was the inspiration behind.
The Sound of Music.
Decades ago, an animated
version of the drummer
boy was all the rage on television in 1968 with the voice
of Eileen Evelyn Greer Garson narrating. If you're of
a certain age, you may have seen this version when it
debuted. I can say for myself, I watched the debut. The
clay figures used in the animation was very fascinating. I
still try to watch it today as part of my Christmas tradition.
Although the "Little Drummer Boy" is often remembered
for the lines that famously imitate a drum, a review of the
song's lyrics reveal why it is indeed a Christmas carol. It
is about the birth of Jesus and the gifts presented to the
newborn king on this momentous day.
This Christmas, spend time with your family. Sing carols
together, and remember the
Birth of Jesus, is the reason for the season. Merry
Christmas everyone!
Sing with me
Come they told me
pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see
pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring
f a rum pum pum pum
o lay before the King
pa rum pum pum pum
rum pum pum pum
rum pum pum pum
So to honor Him
