A Seed From The Sower -Michael Guido "The Real Thing" It has always been difficult for missionary families to be together at special times for important occasions. Often hearts ache for the joy and happiness that bonds hearts and unites loved ones for special reasons and seasons. The headmaster of a school for the children of missionaries knew that feeling very well. His parents were missionaries, and he spent many birthdays alone as well as many holidays apart from family members. He knew that one of his students, in particular, was having a difficult time one Christmas and decided to visit him in his room. After talking for a few minutes he asked, “John, what would you like for Christmas this year?” Looking at a picture of his father on the wall, he said, “I would like my father to step out of that frame.” That’s what Jesus did. He “stepped out” of the Old Testament “frames” that prophesied His coming. He became the “real thing” when he walked among the people, laid His hands on the sick, and restored them to health, fed the hungry with bread that would last throughout eternity, and gave the water of life to those dying of thirst. The Son of God willingly and voluntarily made Himself “nothing” when He assumed a human body and a human nature and became the “real thing.” Jesus is God seeing us through human eyes, hearing us with human ears, touching lives with human hands, and loving us with a human heart. In Jesus, we see God with us - Immanuel! Prayer: Thank You, Father, for sending us the “Real Thing.” Through Your Son we know how much You love us, understand us, and know our every need. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. Scripture For Today: Philippians 2:5-11 Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. ADVERTISES? 1 TRUSTED SOURCE YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER Words of Encouragement By Joshua Johnson, Special Contributor for The Times Pastor Oak Hill Baptist Church, Millen "Mary, Joseph and their son " ’’And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” - Luke 2:22-24 ESV Eight days after Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph went to Jerusalem to dedicate Him to God at the Temple. This was done because God commanded His people to do it in scripture (Leviticus 12). This was a symbolic and spiritual dedication - praising God for His gift and making a commitment to raising their child to fear the Lord God and walk in His ways. The dedication was commanded by God, required to be done at the Temple, and involved a sacrifice of specific animals. Leviticus 12 tells us that God made a provision for families that couldn’t afford a lamb for this sacrifice - they could instead sacrifice two turtle doves. The fact that Mary and Joseph brought two turtle doves to the dedication shows us that they were too poor to afford a lamb. If Mary and Joseph made the journey and paid precious money that they didn’t have to bring Jesus to the Temple to dedicate Him to God, what does that say to us parents today? The most important thing you can do in your life as a parent is to present your children to the Lord. An old puritan pastor said, “If you neglect to instruct your children in the way of holiness, the devil will not neglect to instruct them in wickedness.” Our children will be discipled - by Christian parents and a good church, or by the devil and the world he rules over. Great things come to us at great cost. It will take maximum effort for us to raise our children in the fear of the Lord. Mary and Joseph set a good example for us to follow - at a week old, Jesus was in the Temple before the Lord. Proverbs 22:6 -” Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.“ That’s our job as parents, to train our children in the way of the Lord. Take your children to church, pray with them at home and tell them about Jesus, pray for them as they grow, and set a good example for them to follow you, as you follow Jesus. How wonderful it will be to stand before Jesus one day and say, “Lord, not just myself, but here are the children you gave me also.” Church News Miracle Temple House of True and Living God will hold a free food distribution on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024 from 8-10 a.m. Please contact Pastor Elijah Coney at 478-455-1844 for questions.
