Unemployment
Holds Steady
at 3.4%, Job
Numbers Reach
Record Highs
By Joe Brady, Editor

The Times
Georgia's unemployment
rate remained steadfast
at 3.4% in November,
marking the third
consecutive month at this
rate, according to a report
from the state Department
of Labor released Thursday.
The data reflects a robust
economic landscape,
with several categories,
including job numbers,
reaching record highs.
The number of jobs
in the state saw a slight
increase of 0.3% last month
compared to November of
the previous year, totaling
more than 4.95 million.
This uptick in employment
contributes to Georgia's
resilient economic
performance.
The labor force also
witnessed growth, with
an increase of 11,263
individuals, reaching an
all-time high of nearly 5.36
million. Georgia's labor
force participation rate
maintained its strength,
holding steady at 61.6%
last month compared to
October, and marking an
increase from 61.0% at the
beginning of the year.
Moreover, the number
of employed Georgians
surged by 9,755 individuals
to almost 5.18 million,
setting another all-time
high. State Commissioner
of Labor Bruce Thompson
expressed optimism
about Georgia's economic
outlook, stating, "With
record-high job numbers,
a thriving economy that
stands among the nation’s
best, and a workforce
eager to embrace new
opportunities, Georgia is
poised to enter the new year
with hope and boundless
possibilities for all."
While the overall
economic indicators are
positive, there are some
challenges on the horizon.
Initial unemployment
claims experienced a 3%
increase last month, totaling
22,316 claims. However,
when viewed in the context
of the entire year, first-time
jobless claims declined by
13%, highlighting a broader
trend of improvement.
Georgia's economic
resilience, coupled with the
positive trajectory in job
numbers and labor force
participation, positions
the state favorably as
it approaches the new
year. The record-breaking
figures reflect not only the
state's economic strength
but also the adaptability and
resilience of its workforce.
As Georgia navigates
economic challenges, the
overall outlook appears
promising, offering hope
for continued growth and
prosperity.

A YEAR OF PRECIOUS BLESSINGS
A new year has come and it is hard to believe. I sure hope
2024 is a wonderful year for you and your family.
One hymn I heard many years ago at a New Years Eve
prayer service, was the hymn,
"A year of precious blessings"
written by Fanny Crosby and L.
Allan Sankey.
We doubtless have had
problems to face and difficulties
to overcome, but when we review
the past year, taking into account
our situation as compared with
those in other lands, I have to
say we have received countless
blessings. Of course we find
ourselves with more issues to
overcome this next year. But,
I know that God will prevail
through it all.
Allan Sankey was bom in
August of 1874 and was the son of
Ira Sankey and Frances Victoria
Edwards. He married twice, to
Frances Warm in 1899 and Ann
Underhill Meighan inl915.
He studied civil engineering
and architecture at Princeton
University, graduating in 1897.
In 1898, he became president
of the Biglow & Main music
publishers in New York City. He
also served as vicepresident of
the Feeds and Catlin Phonograph
Company, and on the Advisory
Board of the Greenich Bank.
Sankey died, December 30, 1915, on the steam ship
Korona, while going to a Caribbean honeymoon with his
wife Ann. He was buried at sea.
Fanny J. Crosby, was an American mission worker, poet,
lyricist, and composer. Writing many hymns in her lifetime.
At six weeks old, Crosby caught a cold and developed
inflammation of the eyes. Mustard poultices were applied
to treat the discharges. According to Crosby, this procedure
damaged her optic nerves and blinded her. Some of Crosby's
best-known songs include "Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour",
"Blessed Assurance", "Jesus Is Tenderly Calling You Home",
"Praise Him, Praise Him", "Rescue the Perishing", and "To
God Be the Glory".
Happy New Year to all my readers! And may God give
you a year of precious blessings.
Sing with me....
A year of precious blessings
And glorious victories won.
Of earnest work progressing.
Its onward course has ran;
To Thee, O God, our refuge,
Whose goodness crowns our days.
Within Thy earthly temple.
We lift our souls in praise;
Within Thy earthly temple.
We lift our souls in praise.
Thou master of assemblies
In mighty power descend.
Behold our glad reunion.
Conduct it to the end;
Inspire our hearts with courage
And deeper love for Thee,
That all. Thy name may honor.
Where’er our field may be.
That all. Thy name may honor.
Where’er our field may be.
O Church of God’s anointed,
March on the world to win.
Lead forth thy ranks by millions
Against the hosts of sin.
Till at His throne in glory.
Where angels prostrate fall,
One hallelujah chorus
Shall crown Him Lord of all.
One hallelujah chorus
Shall crown Him Lord of all.
