Reporter On Thursday, December 5, Jenkins County authorities responded to an incident on Gamm Gay Road, involving two dogs attacked a horse, leaving it gravely injured. Sgt. John Lanier was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, Lanier spoke with a witness who reported seeing two light brown dogs assaulting the horse. The witness, who lives nearby, stated he attempted to intervene by scaring the dogs away, causing them to retreat to a nearby tree line. Lanier inspected the horse and found it lying on the ground, unable to move due to severe injuries. The animal had deep lacerations and was bleeding profusely. The horse’s owner, distraught over the situation, requested that the officer euthanize the animal to end its suffering. Sgt. Millen Baptist Church Spreads Holiday Cheer Christmas Survival Kits -Joe Brady, Editor This holiday season, the congregation at Millen Baptist Church embraced the spirit of giving by assembling and distributing 250 Christmas Survival Kits to members of the community. The initiative, a collaborative effort of the church’s members, highlights the importance of faith, service, and unity during the festive season. The project began with generous donations from church members, who contributed items for the kits. The church’s youth group then stepped in, packing gallon-sized bags with care and precision. Each survival kit included practical items and meaningful additions, such as a six-day devotional authored by Millen Baptist Church pastor Brad Asbury. The devotional, designed to guide recipients through the holiday season, was accompanied by related materials to deepen the experience. “This is more than just a bag of items; it’s a gift of hope, encouragement, and connection,’ Pastor Asbury shared. “The devotional aims to remind everyone of the true meaning of Christmas and the light of Christ in their lives.” In addition to the devotional, the kits featured information and items tied to the church’s upcoming candlelight service, inviting recipients to join in the sacred and serene gathering. The distribution effort took place earlier today, with church members personally delivering the survival kits throughout the community. “This outreach effort reflects who we are as a church family,” said Asbury. “We’re here to serve, uplift, and share the love of Christ, especially during this season of celebration and reflection.” Millen Baptist Church hopes the Christmas Survival Kits will bring joy and spiritual nourishment to those who receive them, reaffirming the community’s shared bonds and the enduring message of Christmas.
