She was bom in Atlanta, GAto the late Buner and Velma Sinyard. Hellen was a beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, and great-aunt. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and absolutely adored her great grandbabies. She loved tending to her flowers and plants and enjoyed a Dr. Pepper on her porch swing watching the birds. Hellen was cherished by her family and will be missed tremendously. Hellen was preceded in death by fiancee Terry Mobley, her brothers Kenneth Sinyard and Billy Sinyard, her sister Eloise Tant, her sons Stanley and Steve Farmer, her grand-children Amanda Hammock and Justin Farmer. A private graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at The Millen Cemetery with Larry Holcomb officiating. CROWE-FIELDS FUNERAL HOME, INC Rita Burke Rita Burke, 63, of Millen, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024. She was bom on July 21, 1961, in Augusta, Georgia, to the late Albert Redd and Annette (Pat) Harloam. Rita was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her children, Danny (Kali) Burke of Brooklet, GA, and Christy Burke of Millen, GA; her cherished grandchildren, Blake Hucks, Burkley Cook, Carlee Burke, and Britten Burke; her three sisters, Patricia (Joey) Folger, Donna (Sam) Sherrill, and Lisa Harloam; her brother, Wayne (Fay) Redd; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her brother, William (Bubba) Redd and her step father, Pat Harloam. Her career spanned various roles, including working as a seamstress at Jockey International, a pharmacy tech at Linder Pharmacy, and a bank teller at Queensborough National Bank and Trust. In each of these roles, she was known for her kindness, dedication, and the personal connections she built with those around her. A woman who never met a stranger, Rita was deeply loved by family and friends alike. She had an infectious spirit and was known for her warmth, humor, and generous heart. Above all, the true highlight of her life was her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy and pride. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those who have supported them during this time. Rita will be forever remembered for her love, laughter, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. There will be a private ceremony at Green Fork Baptist Church at a later date. Dorothy Owens-Williams Trapp Dorothy Owens Trapp, age 83, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at her home in Millen, GA. She was bom in Jenkins County to the late James D. and Mamie Owens. She was retired from Planters EMC and a lifelong member of Big Horse Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Jason L. Williams, husband, Gary Trapp, parents, James D and Mamie Owens, brother, Richard Owens, brother-in- law, Johnny Johnson, niece, Rhonda J Stokes and nephew, Scott W. Johnson. Survivors include her sister, Mary Ann Johnson, niece. Tiffany Johnson-Gay (Matthew), great niece, Elaina Johnson, and extended family Butch and Kelly Burke, Shelby Lee (Josh), Shae Sherfesee (Kyle), Case Burke (Savana), and many adopted great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Butch Burke, Case Burke, Josh Lee, Kyle Sherfesee, Mark Lane, and Anthony Cerbo. FUNERAL HOME, INC Ralph Edwin Crowe, Jr. Ralph Edwin Crowe, Jr., 75, of Millen, Georgia, died Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Piedmont Hospital of Augusta following an extended illness. A native of Jenkins County, Ralph graduated from Jenkins County High School in 1967. He then attended college for a time before settling in Atlanta and graduating from Gupton- Jones School of Mortuary Science. In the mid ‘70s, Ralph returned home to join the staff with his father, Ralph Crowe, Sr., Robert Fields, Jr., and Phil Cowart at Fletcher Funeral Home. Ralph later became President and Co-Owner of Crowe - Fields Funeral Home where he served the community of Millen for the rest of his life. Upon his return to Millen, Ralph soon married Sara Anne Brinson, and they began their life together upstairs at the funeral home. Upon the birth of their son in 1979, they then moved to their present home where they welcomed their daughter in 1983 and have resided for 44 years. During this time, Ralph pursued many interests including golf, earning his private pilot’s license, computers, NASCAR racing, baking, and traveling with his wife, children, and many friends. Over the years, Ralph has been a member of several civic and service organizations including the Masons of Georgia - Screven Lodge #248, Rotary Club of Millen, Jenkins County Board of Education, and Millen Methodist Church where he chaired and served on many different committees. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sara “Sally” Brinson Crowe; son, Ralph Edwin “Wynn” Crowe, III (Kimberly); daughter, Anna Crowe Burch (Charlie); five grandchildren, Ralph “Edwin” Crowe, IV, Phoebe Crowe, and Eleanor Crowe of Elberton, GA, and Mildred “Millie Kate” Burch and Charlotte Burch of Millen, GA; two sisters, Rebeckah “Becky” Mims of Hephzibah, GA, and Mary Crowe of Grovetown, GA; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Edwin Crowe, Sr. and Kathryn Tuttle Crowe as well as his brother, John David Crowe. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, at Millen Methodist Church with Rev. John Drake, Rev. Tim Fields, and Rev. Butch Taylor officiating. Burial services will follow at Millen Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, December 30, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Crowe - Fields Funeral Home. CROWE-FIELDS FUNERAL HOME, INC Charles Wayne King Charles Wayne King, age 70, of Sylvania, GA passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024. He was bom in Savannah, GA to the late Bobby Charles King and Gloria Ann Lutes. Wayne was a track driver for most of his life and a very hard worker. He loved his family and was always supportive of them. He loved flowers and enjoyed working in his yard. He will be loved and missed by many. Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Debra King, his children Wayne King, Sonya Lane, Manda King and Whitney King and five grandchildren. FUNERAL HOME INC | JN ews Across Georgia -Joe Brady, Editor Albany Humane Society Asks for Donations The Albany Humane Society had a pipe burst and are asking for donations to help provide the cost of repairs. The bursted pipe could cause problems with watering animals inside the building. Director Payton Jarrell said, “when you donate towards these animals, you not only donate towards their care but also so the shelter will ran smoothly. Donations are the only way we can continue bringing animals in and taking care of them.” Farmers Still Reeling From Hurricane Helene Georgia farmers are still more than two months ater Helene raced across the state and blew away cotton, ripened squash, cucumbers, and uprooted pecan trees and timber. Most farmers lost over half their yield. Cotton harvest has been slower due to the fact it has to be harvested off the ground. The small communities rely on agriculture, when that is gone, it is devasting for the small towns. 2 Bodies Discovered in Guyton Business Two people have been found dead at an Effingham County business. The bodies were discovered Friday at a wedding venue and catering business. The GBI is investigating the murder and more details will be made available. DNA Evidence Overturns Murder Conviction Erik Sparre has been charged with two counts of murder four decades ago after Harold and Thelma Swain were gunned down inside a small church in Woodbine, GA. The GA Innocence Project helped point the GBI towards new DNA found on a pair of glasses left at the scene. The wrongfully convicted person, Dennis Perry, was exonerated in 2021. Former District Attorney Jackie Johnson fought hard to defend Perry’s conviction and keep him in prison. Johnson is now charged with interfering in a police investigation into the racially motivated killing of Ahmaud Arbery. Flu Cases Surge in GA Flu cases in Georgia have surged to high levels, according to the latest data from the CDC. Georgia is one of 15 states reporting high or very high levels of influenza. Hospitals across GA have seen patients come in complaining of Covid but when tested they either have Flu A or B. The CDC reports low levels of Covid nationwide down from a summer surge. Children’s Healthcre of Atlanta says the best prevention is to get the vaccine and wash your hands. Cases are expected to increase through the Christmas holidays. GA Immigrants Brace For Mass Deportations Immigrant communities across the state are worried they could be deported once Tramp takes office on Jan. 20, 2025. Atlanta’s hispanic community even held a town hall to discuss the potential impact of these policies. Tramp’s campaign promise was to bring the military in to aid in the deportation. However, legal scholars say. Tramp would have to declare an insurrection to constitutionally do that. Georgia Sees 116k Added To Census Records Georgia added 116,646 new residents from July 2023 to July 2024, this data comes from the U.S. Census Bureau.GA is ranked 7th for growth and remains 8th in the nation for the most populous state with 11.2 million people. Immigration is the key factor in this growth. GA added 63,088 people from other countries. However overall immigration is down from 2023 and 2022 with only 88,408 people.
