table of fellowship and pro
vision), with oil for anoint
ing (the Holy Spirit to lead
and guide), and a cup that
overflows (blessings beyond
measure).
So, what should our
response to trials and suf
fering be? First, to say, “If I
belong to Jesus, I have His
presence with me.” Second,
to be mindful that God is
working for us, and in us,
during the trial. Lastly, to
pray and ask God to accom
plish what He will while
strengthening us with His
grace to endure. A line from
my Streams in the Desert
devotional put it this way,
“Do not fret, or set your
teeth, or wait doggedly for
the suffering to pass; but get
out of it all you can, both
for yourself and for your
service to your generation,
according to the will of
God.”
Let’s pray, “God gives us
strength in trials and suf
fering. Jesus give us your
sufficient grace. Help us to
willingly endure, know
ing that you are working
in us and for us. Help us
to remember your table in
the presence of the trial. In
Jesus’ name. Amen.”
