And, yes, you can make a living at it!). The other part of course, is to try and tell if the items from this area were indeed just dropped in an open area close to the old Lawton Road.. . or were they dropped inside a stmcture? Around a fire pit used by Union or Confederate pickets? Compared to the 30cm round hole from a metal detector hit, the 200 by 200-centimeter square of a unit gives us a wider view—a window into the past instead of a keyhole. And our meticulous excavation pro cess—digging in 10cm layers at a time—helps us to really spot the past looking back at us from the earth’s layers. Our students made great prog ress, and we’re already finding ceramics in higher quantities, and glass, and of course, nails within our ‘science’ box. As we head into next week, we’ll see what the next layers show— every scrape of the shovel and trowel takes us deeper, and every few centimeters in depth takes us further back in time. Our tools are time machines, ar chaeological DeLoreans, letting us travel on the edge of a steel blade back to 1864, and unravel more of the story of what hap pened along Lawton Road on a cold, rainy day in December. Georgia changes in laws 2022 Part 1 Every new year comes with a new set of laws and Georgia has a few that are rolling out along with 2022. Starting this year several bills signed by Gov. Brian Kemp during the 2021-2022 legislative session took effect. Here's a closer look at three laws that have changed: Ensuring Transparency in Prior Authorization Act - SB80 In an effort to create more transparency for patients who are turning to healthcare providers, several lawmakers took aim at the prior authorization. Prior authorization is when insurance companies check before agreeing to pay for certain health services or medications. The prac tice, which is sometimes called prior approval, requires doctors and medical care professionals to get the green light in advance before conducting or even offering a service to the patient. It is often the health insurer's way of determining if a treatment plan is medically necessary. This process is sometimes required for payment cover age. Georgia's new rule requires insurers to make any requirements or restrictions for prior authorization available on its website to the general public. It sets a new standard on how the process should work in the Peach State. Supporters of the bill said it will help patients get the care they need faster and create more transparency between insurers, healthcare professionals and those seeking medi cal treatment. Lease Vehicle Tax Exemption; Revising definition of fair market value of motor vehicles - HB63 Georgia drivers may want to pay attention to this law as it changes the way fair market value is determined for leased vehicles. The bill targets alternative ad valorem tax and revises the definition of fair market value, according to the text. Dubbed the Lease Vehicle Tax Exemption bill, the legislation states the value of a motor vehicle leased mainly for personal use won’t include interest or finance charges in base or down payments. This change comes on the heels of the Title Ad Valorem Tax: Used Cars and Tax Rate which changed the way the retail price for used cars was determined. Larry Jesion Labyrinths look like mazes, but unlike a maze there are no dead ends or false pathways. A Labyrinth has a single entrance and a single pathway. These ancient designs have been found in cave art and date back thousands of years. Though the original purpose or symbolism for the labyrinth is not known, it has been ad opted and adapted by several cultures for a variety of uses. The Minotaur of Greek mythol ogy was kept in a labyrinth on the island of Crete. Early Christians adapted the labyrinth as a method for guiding and centering prayer. Labyrinths come in many different fomis and are found all over the world. There are large walking labyrinths, small finger labyrinths, indoor labyrinths, and outdoor labyrinths. There are so many applications in which labyrinths are used. There is no right or wrong way to use one. The area’s only walking labyrinth is located on the grounds of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Waynesboro GA. It is open to the public and has 24-hour access. On Sunday March 20th, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church is hosting a labyrinth class and a facilitator led guided prayer/meditation. This free event begins at 12:30 p.m. St. Michael’s is located at 515 South Liberty Street: Waynesboro, GA 30830. For additional information please contact Fr. Larry Jesion at st.michaelspriest@gmail.com or call the church office at (706) 554-3465. LARRY'S LENTEN JOURNEY (Second Week in Lent) -Fr. Larry Jesion St. Michael’s Episcopal Church Have you ever wished that you were able to start a rela tionship over again? Have you had regrets for things said and done? Wouldn’t it be great to be able to hit a re set button? The church sea son of Lent is a time set aside for doing just that. We do so through “... self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditation on God’s holy Word.” (Book of Common Prayer; p. 265) The season of Lent for me is about maintaining healthy relationships with God and others. Truly the best way to maintain relationships is by spending time with one an other and by listening to one another. This is especially true with our relationship with God. Spending time in prayer is our opportunity to make a connection to God, to hear His voice, to seek forgiveness and His help to live our lives the way that He would like us to. One Lenten season I had made a concerted effort to focus my prayers on a sim ple little prayer that a friend taught me, “Bless them, change me.” (When pos sible, substitute “them” with the person’s name.) I made a commitment to pray this prayer each day for someone who might have wronged or hurt me in some way. Jesus taught us that we are to forgive and to pray for our enemies. If we are to truly forgive, it would stand to reason that we would seek God’s blessing for them as well. The key to the prayer is the second part, “change me,” change the way that I react, change my heart. Initially, this was easy as I would pray for the man who cut me off in traffic or the woman who repeatedly ran her shopping cart into the back of my ankles while waiting in line at the gro cery checkout. The deeper I went into Lent, the deeper the prayers became; they now involved friends and people closer to me. I prayed the prayer for a co-worker with whom I had an argument at work. This time the prayer didn’t seem sufficient. I re- i alized that I needed to seek forgiveness from my peer. I needed to apologize for my part in our argument. By do ing so, our professional rela tionship and friendship grew stronger. Eventually, I did this same thing with family members. By Holy Week, I had run out of people to pray for; but I still felt that God was tell ing me that I was not done here. I realized that there was one person that I had not prayed for nor forgive—and that was myself. For the re mainder of Holy Week, my prayer became, “Bless me, change me.” Easter Morning, Resur rection Sunday as I sat in the church waiting for the service to begin, I felt this tremendous weight lift from my spirit and my soul. The guilt, pain, and animosity I had been carrying around were gone! It truly was a life changing Lent. Subscribe Today!
