71st annual Livestock
Parade marches down Main
TOP
PARADE
WINNERS
ANNOUNCED
-Joe Brady
Sylvania Times Editor
The 71st annual Livestock
Festival Parade is one for the
history books. Now, this is
your editor’s first parade, so I
don’t have anything to judge
it by but, I was impressed.
Just when the bystanders
thought it was over, the un
mistakable sounds of cannon
fire kept us glued to the sides
of the road as local business
es and civic organizations
provided entertainment. The
talent that abounds within
the Screven County line is
limitless as it was obvious
that some thought was put
into these floats. Thank you,
Screven County, for support
ing your parade participants
and making this a memorable
event for all of us cover
ing the event. Photo by Sam

Meet Candidate
Stacy Scott Mincey
of District 4
-Joe Brady
Sylvania Times Editor
Stacy Scott Mincey’s goal is to
build community tmst. “It boils
down to, if
you’re happy
with the way
things are, then
we should stay
with what we
have. If you
want a change
and to move our
community into
the future, then
vote for me,”
Stacy says.
Stacy is a na
tive of Screven
County and
lives in the
house her grandparents called home
her entire life. She is the daughter of
Mike Scott and Rita French Junko.
She and husband Allen have two
children. As we talked about her
campaign, it was obvious that Stacy
has a passion. “When I talk about
progress, I don’t mean we should
live in Savannah. We need afford
able house and industry in Screven
County. We also can’t overlook
small business. Let’s make our area
attractive to small business and
large industry alike. In short, we
must prepare for our children’s fu
ture.”
Stacy also admits that improving
transparency should be the #1 prior
ity of the County Commission. “Our
meeting times should be more ac
cessible, let’s give people the oppor
tunity to partic
ipate when they
can.”
Stacy also ad
mits that the
county road
ways need spe
cial attention.
In her opin
ion the roads
should be pri
oritized, and
funds allocated
to repair them.
“The county
can’t grow
without decent
infrastructure,” she summarizes.
The small business owner will draw
on her experience working with oth
ers to be a listening commissioner,
“the only way Screven County can
be the best it can be is if the com
missioners listen to their constitu
ents.”
Stacy admits to thinking long and
hard about whether she should run
against the incumbent. Will Boyd.
“When it boils down to it, Screven
County has invested a lot of time
and opportunity in me, it’s time I
give back.” Photo contributed.
